After playing hours of Shining force.. I went to save my game it said something like "unable to save CF read error".. I had saved my game about 10 - 15 minutes earlier without problem. So to make sure i didnt continue playing a game i couldnt save, i went back to Supercard menu and it said the dreaded unable to locate CF turn off GBA etc.. I put the CF into my computer and windows asked me if i wanted to format the card. I said no, and used a file recoverey tool to restore my saved game..

I hope that it was just a fluke, ive been playing for hours on multiple games with no problem. Id hate to have to constantly backup my CF.

Windows XP was unable to format the card, I remember having the same problem with small harddrives after being formated by windows XP.
So i tried to format using a different size by goign to a command prompt and format using a forced Allocation unit size, according to my file recovery the previous was 8192. I did some research and smaller allocation sizes mean less slack space but slower performance. I set it to 64K at first and it formated ok but told me that there may be compatibility problems. I tried 8192 again and got an track 0 unusable error (havent seen that since old floppy disk days), so i went next in line, 16K. It appears to be working properly for now. Ill let you know if I have any more problems. I used FAT btw for filesystem.

Timekeeper

Was the battery pack fully charged when you tried to save ?

Low battery power could cause this kind of problem and corrupt data .
