I had the same problem. I share my Supercard with my missus, when she tried to play some SMS ROMs on GBA, it wouldn't run. I've just installed a previous version of the firmware where they all work, but then I only play DS homebrew.

i had same problem, too.
fw 1.81 and no in-build emulator work :( :( :(
i love to play gb/c on nds

With GBC, it's best to create your own compilations anyway for the benefits that the updated WIP builds provide.  Download Alpha 6 and then replace the goomba.gba file with the one from http://www.dwedit.org/dwedit_board/viewtopic.php?pid=1740.  Then create the compilation using the Goomba frontend.  Patch with the Supercard patcher and run.

for GBC, there's always lameboy which doesn't require you to create a compilation.  but i don't think it works on GBA.

Update:  The problem has been identified, and a workaround is available.  See the first post.

I'm in the unique position of never having updated for fear of breaking the emulators, so I was still at 1.7 when I followed dantheman's instructions. They do indeed work. NES, GB and SMS all worked and that's all I tried. So I guess dan really is the man. :)

No wonder they worked for me, as I did go to 2.80 when it came out first, as I never or very rarely use homebrew.
Yes I'm mad

Can't seem to get it to upgrade from 1.70 to 1.80.  I get this error "It isn't accurate upgrade file.  Please turn of GBA."  I've tried using different UPGRADE.scu files but none seem to work.  Darn

meangreenie

if you get that error message for no reason, format the mem card... this has happened to me a couple of times and that always clears it

reformatted and still getting "it isn't accurate upgrade file.  Please turn off GBA" error...  :(

meangreenie

try putting on the root of the mem card by itself, also it may be worth formatting again before trying it, full not quick

otherwise maybe you could try another mem card ??

sorry i'm not much help  :-[

OK, I'm prepared to upgrade to 1.80, then 1.81 from 1.70.

Does this upgrade have any benefit at all for GBA games?  I have a separate slot1 card for DS games. I only use my SCminiSD for the built-in emus and GBA gaming....as well as a few little vids, not really anything else.

In my particular case, does it matter if I upgrade or not?

There was a few days there where this site was down....almost deleted it from my shortcuts thinking it was just gone.  Glad I discovered otherwise.

Current setup:
Onyx DSlite/R4DS/SCminiSD
2gig Transcend card for the SCminiSD
2gig Kingston for the R4DS
4 gigglingbytes of games/apps! WOOT!

kkan

ya know I argued the point of doing the update of firmware sequence in order here

but got poo pooed that its not necessary to do that anymore !?

lol but what do I know :)

dantheman

Rayder, I don't think it has any benefits for GBA gaming.  It wouldn't hurt to upgrade though, just in case a future update does help the GBA side of things.

kkan, in theory you should be able to go from 1.70 to 1.81 with no ill effects.  However, in this case you were right and we were wrong.

lol I was only going by what it says on the SUPERCARD WEBSITE  :)

and It just seems a logical progression to upgrade in order :)
