It's possible the chip may have a switch like some of the xbox ones, with the switch in correct position it's visible and can be flashed - otherwise it's in stealth

You may be right about the likelihood of a countermeasure from Nintendo. But most of the time I get the feeling that Nintendo doesn't really pay too much attention to small time modding and software piracy. Of course they've got to, to a certain extent. But compared to Sony, who attempts to circumvent our PSP capabilities on an almost daily basis, I think it's safe to say that there's a possibility that it will be ignored by Nintendo. *resists temptation to refer to Nintendo as 'The Big N'*

Wal-Mart. Always the low price. Always.

For those worried about playing NTSC on PAl and visa versa, as I am, don't worry for long. Remember, this is the first generation of mod chips, and are very primitive in its exploit vector. Not to say that they're bad or anything, but ultimately all these do is tell the cpu that the disc is legit.

Correct me if I'm wrong however, I was just looking into why it doesn't work, and a review on MaxConsole (i think) stated that the game 'worked' but there was no video. Which lead me to believe the chip only affects how the disc is read, not how it's interpreted.

it just means the ntsc wii cannot output pal signal...

AFAIK, it's just impossible for PAL hardware to output NTSC and vice versa, it's not something that can be solved with a modchip... so there's no sense waiting for one that does.  Am I wrong?

You are indeed wrong. It's not a matter of outputting the original signal, but converting the signal to the correct region for the hardware. This can be done in software in GCN mode using the freeloader, I don't see why it wouldn't be possible to do the same with the Wii... I'm just not sure how you'd do the conversion in hardware with a mod chip.
