reinmoon vs eepinator

So far it looks like i can use either eepinator or reinmoon to back up my  nds saves and then convert to m3 simply format. Because of the size difference of the file though, i cant go visa versa with an m3 simply to regular nds sav using eepinator. I tried using DS lazy to trim the m3 simply saver but it was still too big. Yet if i use reinmoon, i dont have to convert the m3 simply saver at all; it goes directly to the nds cart  :)

Just out of curiousity why does is the file conversion unnecessary? Maybe reinmoon does an auto trim? And is there any way eepinator can do the same? Does the latest reinmoon work on a m3 simply or lite? Ive been using my old sc CF for reinmoon and m3 simply for eepinator. Great stuff  ;D

Final question, is there any way to do the same with gba carts? (tranfering sav back and forth to a real cart) Ive used the EZf cable to get some gba sav, but some like eeprom type cant be backed up that way. Also i cant use savsender since i only have the nintendo usb connector. Sorry if people are annoyed by all these questions in 1 post.

I don't know about the whole trimming thing, but I can help you with some things.  Have you tried using the FlashManager program to backup your save files using the linker cable?  The latest English beta supports many different linkers, so hopefully it'll work with yours.  EEPROM saves however are a bit tricky to work with, even though FlashManager can back them up and restore them.  See http://wiki.pocketheaven.com/FlashManager for more info on this and a way to make the save files work with VBA or a homebrew device.

Hm, if it can't see the cable then I have no clue what to do, sorry.

well i suppose i could get another cable. Which ones for sure work and where are they sold? Also, maybe i didnt download all the files, as the site was in japanese.

the flash manager says " not found either parallel linker advanceor usb linker advance. you must install giveo.sys if you use PLA on windows NT or 2000, XP." I am using windows XP.

Oh, if you're using a parallel linker, you'll probably have to install that driver then.  I'm not entirely sure how this is done however, as I use a USB linker that works fine with FlashManager.  Regardless, make sure you're using the latest 3.00 Beta15 version.

I use a Flash2Advance USB cable, available at Linker4U at least.

whoops, i had the wrong version; seems like the software sees the linker and reads the eeprom sav. The m3 lite even seems to convert it to a dat file okay. problem is when i load the game, the progress isnt there. Maybe it wasnt backed up properly or converted properly to a dat file. ill have to play around with it.

Okay, so you can get the EEPROM save backed up?  Did you check the PHWiki page and try the solution offered on there to convert it to a format that emulators and homebrew devices can use?
