A cheap solution to play, "backup," GC games?

I was checking out DealExtreme and stumbled upon this:

According to a review, you can play backups of GC games with an unmodded cube, and for 8$ I'm thinking to myself, why not? What I'm wondering though is if anybody has any idea what the AR code is that is needed for the device to work (according to a review on the site, you need some code). Also, do I need a Wii or will my GC be fine?

Nearly all of my songs are made with Fruity Loops, except for one where I used Reason. I recommend looking at my ambient stuff, and staying away from old songs, which are pretty crappy.

A GC will be fine; google for "SDload" and GCOS to find out more about the method / AR code. One thing to bear in mind is you'll have to burn onto mini DVD's which can be expensive and troublesome. Its a lot easier if you get a custom case - designed for normal size DVD's as well. You might also have to tweak the pot too.

Do I need some kind of special DVD burner to work with miniDVDs? If so I might as well just get a custom case to work with regular DVDs, but one thing I'm wondering is would it be easy to install for someone who basically has no experience in modding consoles at all? And where might I find one of these for a decent price?

BTW, thanks a lot for the help  :)

No need for a new DVD burner, any DVD burner will burn mini's too, just pop em in like a regular DVD. As far as the case goes it just 4 of those Nintendo screws. Easy as twisting a screw driver though you might wanna pick up a security screw bit that fits the Nintendo screws if you don't have one. As far as the case goes they run between $25 and $40. Here is one from modchipstore: http://www.modchipstore.com/Team-Viper-Branded-full-size-DVD-compatible-replacement-case-16305.html

Wow, much less complicated than you would think! According to the installation requirements, it said I would need a GameBit GameCube opening tool:

I'm not sure, but I think that's what you were talking about when you said that I'd need some security screw bit. ratx also mentioned that I may need to tweak the pot. Is this necessary? According to the site it simply makes the laser run above its factory settings.

Thanks again for all the help :D

EDIT: Apparently I will need a file - SDLOADER.bin for this to work. Anyone know where I could obtain such a file? Here are the full instructions I got:

Preparing a SD card from Windows

This procedure assumes that F: is the drive letter associated with your computer SD card reader.

   1. Format the SD card with a FAT16 filesystem (FAT12 and FAT32 are not supported).
   2. Run sdpatch.exe f:\
   3. Copy SDLOADER.BIN to the root directory of the SD card.

From this site: http://www.gc-linux.org/wiki/SDload#External_Links

EDIT2: I've found the software, now I just have to wait for that screw to come in stock, and then I can order it :D Thanks for all the help guys, I greatly appreciate it!
