It's business. Many more Americans play video games than the Europeans, though I don't blame you for being upset. Nintendo, or any video-game company, will release games first in the country where they think the game will sell more. The exception to this is if it's the company's home country (like Nintendo-Japan) and and even then I think many games would get released in Japan first anyway.

Okay, so I've stated what's pretty much obvious so far, but point-being, all it takes is some thinking.

Where will a soccer game sell more? Europe or United States?
ANSWER: Europe

Where will a Mario game sell more? Europe or Japan?
ANSWER: Japan

It seems pretty obvious that SMG will be more popular in Japan than in Europe, so obviously something is wrong here. The more I think about it, the more obvious it is that THIS is IGN's fault.

I think I also know what went wrong here. Take a look at the Japan release date. December 31. The last day of the year. Aren't all the stores that are offering SMG for preorder giving the date December 31 2007? It makes sense to tell costomers that the game will come out the last possible day. (game TBA 2007, last day of 2007 is the latest possible date) Who is going to be disappointed if a game comes out EARLIER?

So, that's where Japan's release date came from. Japan has the same date as the US does really, TBA 2007.

So... What's with Europe?

Haven't figured that part out yet... but...

IS IT POSSIBLE that Nintendo DOES have an inside release date for SMG, one that they want to keep from the public for some weird business reason?

IS IT POSSIBLE that Nintendo's inside date got leaked to IGN somehow, and IGN just thinking "Whatever" put up the date on their site, not knowing it was a leaked date?
