Problems with flashing DS

In my life time, I have flashed 3 DS lites in total, one of them being yesterday. Anyway, I am trying to help out another friend by flashing his. Everything was going fine, I did the Superpass 2 thing, and it was all dandy. Anyway, when I opened the flashmestealth programme thing, it didn't work.

What happened was I did XBXB, then the bar thing came up. I slowly put the flashing tool into the correct hole, and it suddenly turned off. We thought the battery fell out, so we tried again, but it turned off right as I put in the tool.

Can anyone tell me why this is happening, and what to do to stop it?

Thanks

UPDATE: Been using SuperPass 2 and Supercard SD. Forgot to mention. :3

If you're sure that you're not touching the wrong contact (touching the wrong one = instant poweroff), then my only guess is something mentioned a while back, that perhaps the metal is too conductive.  Someone once suggested using something with some resistance to it, like pencil lead.  I don't have firsthand experience with this however.

Is the ds still booting up ?

tip ... wrap your tool in electrical tape apart from the very tip, to ensure your not shorting out on any close by components on the ds motherboard.
Yes I'm mad

there's a whole discussion about it here:

basically, plug in the power adapter

I have also heard that keeping the charger plugged in to the DS can overcome this.

Thanks for the help everyone.

The DS lite was defiantly plugged into power, so I don't really see what I did wrong. I have used the same tool for all the DS's I have flashed, so there is defiantly nothing wrong with that.

I will be trying again, now knowing that when it powers off, it doesn't mean it's bricked. :D

If it powers off at 0%, it shouldn't be bricked.  If you make a good connection and it starts flashing but powers off before the 3% mark, it's bricked.  After 3%, you should be able to use the emergency recovery button combo to try again.

Well, his little brother told his mum that "da ds turned off n now is lose interaction" or something, so I can't flash it now anyway.

Thanks for the help.

Actually, the 3 DS lites that I had flashed were all bought around June last year, and the one I was trying to flash yesterday was given on Christmas, so is that thread relevant to the DS lite at hand? I don't know if it's a new DS lite or not.
