Rumor of new PS3 model, with a $399 price tag

The new ps3 will have a 40gb HDD, but it will drop backwards compatibility.  I don't have link, because I read it in some magazine I get.

I am skeptical. As far as I know backwards compatibility does not have that much of an impact on manufacturing cost.
