SC to 3-in-1 GBA save

Has anyone here successfully converted a SC (lite) save to one that works on an ezflash 3-in-1 cartridge?  I don't seem to be able to do it.  I thought I converted a savegame properly, but it doesn't seem to have any effect on the game when I play it.

I ran the save through a patcher I found that appeared to be the right one
I loaded ANOTHER gba game onto the 3-in-1 (it backs up the previous save, then loads the new one)
I copied my converted save over, matching the filename of the one it made for the game I want to play
I loaded the game I want to play
And it had the original savegame with data from before I copied my converted save over.

:-\ Any ideas?  I've realized, the 3-in-1 has a flaw, I can't do the real-time-save thing...  Maybe SCLite is the way to go for a slot-2 card.  Too bad no rumble though.

I found a way to do it!

Use this utility: http://www.shunyweb.info/index.php

For anyone else, here's the full procedure:

Play the game once (thereby generating a savegame)
Play something else (thereby copying the savegame off the 3-in-1 and giving you a "hard copy")
Convert your "original" savegame, off the Supercard or whatever using the above utility
Copy your savegame over and exactly duplicate the name of the savegame for the game in question - this can be made a little easier by renaming the original to "whatever.sa", then rename your new one to "whatever.sav".  Next, rename "whatever.sav" to "whatever.sa".  If you get an error message saying the filename already exists, you have definitely duplicated it correctly.

Sure is a pain though.  Luckily the only GBA game I was in the middle of playing when I upgraded to the 3-in-1 was Fire Emblem.

I use a 8meg SMS memory stick and my GBA :-) it does the job

what about with vba saves? is it the same procedure or is there something more simple?
