DPG is an extremely superiour format. i use dpgenc myself, as i have got better results personally (over batchdpg).
the crystal engine sucks for quality, but hey - atleast gba can play videos

thanks; another question: how long should the file convesion be if the batchDPG is set for 3 passes and "ultra"?

That would take quite a long time, several times longer than the length of the video.  I usually use 2 passes at high quality, and even then it takes a long time.

yeah more passes = more time ..usually with anime or cartoons in general you can sometimes get away with just 1 pass with highbitrate ....but movies need at least 2 pass minimum otherwise its overkill for most systems in processing time ... this is also the case with XVID/DIVX to dvd the more passes the longer it takes and the higher bitrate the longer it takes .. both together takes quite a while on an average spec machine :(

I usually do any kind of processing overnight that way theres at least 8 hrs or processing time available and the computer isnt doing a lot else besides processing  ;)

@dan 1000 posts .... and im catching up fast this makes post 686 :P

conversion depends on the power of your pc, and the input video. in general a dvd-quality video (or xvid etc) to dpg on a 2-3ghz processor on 1 pass in the official tool, it takes around real-time for me

so far, it seems like the batchdpg is working for me albeit roughly; in part of a movie, the audio was converted badly (so im converting that part again, seems like in 1 part it took audio files from another part of the dvd) Also, ive been frquently getting some kind of warning; something or othr  is left active and it asks if i want to continue to like debug; Im not totally positive this slows down conversion, but im thinking it is, considering the process doesnt seem to mak much progess during the night which is annoying. And I dont think think I should be seeing that warning. Anyone have any ideas?

Also, ive been first backing up the DVD to my pc from the disc and then use batchdpg on the new files on the pc. Do i have to do this, or can i directly use batchdpg to convert right off the disk?

Anyhow for reference my pc has 1gb ram and 2.8 processor and in my 8 hrs sleep time I can process 5-6 avis with 2 pass to dvds in batch  in that time :P

not really spent much time converting to dpg as I use a portable dvd player if I need portable films ;D

Okay so this one of the batchDPG warnings:

Executable: mencoder.exe pid cdc Tid df0. module mpg2splt.dll, 407 objects left active! At line 317 of d:\builds\nt32_chk\multimedia\published\dxmdev\dshowdev\base\dllentry.cpp Continue? (cancel to debug)

What the heck does this mean?

what is the souce video is it avi/xvid/divx MPEG other !?

i think its vob; I first ripped it off the DVD and have them in my c drive. I then have batchdpg look them up from the c drive.

did you install avisynth 2.56 when you got batchdpg ?

and .net 1.1 or later ?

get avisynth 2.56 here :)

does the encoding work ok with other media formats besides vob?

Not tested with a full movie in VOB format myself ...only a small sample vob as a test and that worked ok :)

if your still having issues maby try rip the dvd to xvid then convert the xvid  :)

i think i do have avisynth; not sure if its that version but im thinking mines pretty recent. I can check later though.

I recently installed a k lite version too. when i installed it, it something about uninstalling ffshow (or something) as it is included in the klite pack. I did and it installed successfully, though i didnt restart my pc between the uninstall then install process.

I have successfully converted some vob files (so it does work fine), its just i get that warning; I think if i just push yes, then its continues fine, it just stops the encoding process which is annoying if i try to leave it on during the night.

batchDPG worked fine with mpeg 4.

how would i rip to xvid? I just use this one i found off the net because its one of the few free ones.

okay i think i figured out the problem; when i ripped the DVD, I also ripped all the secondary files, not just the movie. For some reason, i think the batchdpg got the movie clip mixed with other files in the folder. So I believe if i just relocate the movie files and separate them from their seconday files (menus, extras, etc) I wont get the warning or the errors in the conversion when i direct the batchdpg program.

I also did update the avisynth just in case. (i believe i had v2.5 or something)

Edit: well, still experimenting, seems like on some files, i still get mixed up audio and the warning. I noticed that theres actually a file in the batchdpg folder called a mencoder, something that the warning message was referring to. Im now trying to convert a troubling file alone, since that seemed to work for another file

Edit 2: still no luck with this particular file; for the curious, its a rip of batman tas vol 1 disk 4 VTS_01_2. For some reason, the video seems okay, but the audios spanish; when i play the rip on the pc though, its english. Actually i think a few of the files that i had warnings were able to tranlate correctly pretty much. Another issue i noticed was audio lag in a few movie files while the rest of the movie converted properly. Like I got half of spiderman properly and basically all of batman begins (exept for a minor audio lag in the 1st file). And I still have no idea on how to get rid of that annoying warning; Im tempted to go and try dpgenc now. How does dpgenc compare to batchdpg?
if there any other comments on how to get this work more easily, im more than open.

edit 3: well ive now been working on a different pc, and the process is alot faster, smoother and without warnings. I dont think ive run into anymore major problems that cant be fixed with a bit of experiementing. the dvd fab decrypter is great for the initial rips as someone reccommended on this forum. Like to make sure one audio file isnt mixed up, just check the main audio file you want associated with the video when the dvd rip is being done with dvd fab, and thatll prevent batchdpg from mixing audio files improperly
