Well tried to do a search in the forum on the Okiwi browser and nothing came up, so i thought that i would start a topic with it... A lot of people are waiting  with patience for this browser, and with the recent experience with the Gnirfleo (damn i really believed in it for a moment  :-[ thoose bastards ) people are more likely to be skeptical. It seems though that Okiwi is the real deal. Even though the Okiwi site has been very quiet lately... any thoughts/news on the browser?

My view is that I'll believe it when I see it.  We currently have several web browsers available I can use until then:
1.  Retawq and Links (and graphical Links) using DSLinux
2.  DSOrganize
3.  Bunjalloo
4.  DSHobro (though this isn't very useful)

is there any browser with flash/java?

Nope, there are none, sorry.

Here's the website for those who are wondering.  Seems like there's an alpha release though I have not tried it.  Don't think I'll ever go to trying this, but if the software goes stable, I'm sure it'll help homebrewers immensely.

Have tried the alpha release, the gui looks nice but the alpha was nothing more than a picture viewer.

BTW. there has just been an update on the OKIWI blog. a new release is eminent.

QuoteThe next release is approaching

Although the last month was riddled with examns, the development of Okiwi you have been going on.

I'm finishing some modifications on the quadtree I talked in some previous post under it fits to better the visual model, which there are gone trough some changes to be dwells compliant with the specification for floating boxes.

I'm also currently busy with an enhancement of CSS parsing, consisting in making it able to understand rules like @media and @import.

Is think that those who have been following the project deserve seeing all the progress I've been talking during the last months, now that they have enough consistency. Is that why, when I completes the tasks mentioned in previous paragraphs, I'll release the second alpha version.

Some of you ask to wether it will be possible, when Okiwi reaches the image age, to uses the Opera's memory expansion. To answer is yes, thanks to the fact that Lick - to frequent to user of gbadev.org formus- there are worked on to programming library which eases the uses of these Slot-2 memories, with support for every cart I mentioned, ace well ace the Opera's one.

Ace long ace I have not used it yet, devices categorical I can't make statements about completes stability or compatibility with any of those.

Finally, able for those who read the blog via the feed and aren't to see the bolds and italics, I think you will see them from this post onward.

And it is out! a working alpha 0.2 release!! Tried it it very promising!

The new alpha is here

At last, after several days in which I have been one with my computer, I'm releasing the second alpha of Okiwi (version 0.2).

Okiwi at www.devkitpro.org

It allows to read files from the card (by entering addresses like file:///path, like, for example, file:///test.html) or Internet (http://...). Some pages are displayed fairly well (specially blogs, like this, which is preconfigured as the home page), while others don't work at all, so I'll have to investigate little by little what Okiwi fails to know.

By now it's able to interpret numerous CSS 2.1 properties, like margins, paddings, floating, colors, etc., altough there are several missing. Some other things not done yet are: tables, forms, cookies and images. There are also some other bugs and lacks I'm aware of.

To scroll a page, dragging with the stylus is still the only way. 75% and 150% zoom levels, which were missing in the first version, have been added. To follow a link, it's enough to "click" on it, altough it doesn't work always, and I must debug it.

The good news is that, from now on, new versions will be released with a much higher frequency. I'll release one each time I implement one of the lacking features or fix important bugs.

The installation procedure of this release is the same as the last, so I encourage the reading of the instructions I published that time. If someone has still the old version in his card, it's recommended to erase it completely before installing this one.

Well, I hope you like it and keep on there.
