It was a night just like any other night before . . .

I became interested in Nintendo DS during the summer of 2005 when I first read DarkFader's blog about having found a way to hack DS and run homebrew.  My daughter already had an original silver DS "phat" that I got for her birthday.  I had previous experience with GBA/GBC flashcards and programming GBA using HAM so I wanted to experiment with DS homebrew.  I purchased an original PassMe from Natrium42 when the second batch was made available.  Unfortunately after my PassMe arrived I couldn't get it to work with my G-Bank flashcard.  For a month or so my PassMe collected dust as I waited for a G-Bank firmware update that never happened.

I started evaluating alternative GBA flashcards and ultimately decided to get a Supercard SD because I already had SD memory and liked the concept of removable storage.  From what I read on the SCdev.org forums Supercard worked fairly well.  I ordered Supercard SD and also purchased my own DS rather than use my daughters. The first thing I did when my Supercard arrived was flash my DS with FlashMe so I wouldn't have a passme sticking out of the back. At the time Supercard couldn't save directly to SD so we had to save games to the EEPROM of a real game cart. I remember using the Metroid Prime demo to play 4kb EEPROM game ROMs and using Feel the Magic to play 64kb EEPROM game ROMs.  Most homebrew worked pretty well with Supercard other than a few homebrew like Moonshell.  Here is one of my first posts on SCdev.org back in December 2005 regarding moonshell . . .

Koji - Thanks for your input.  No disrespect to this Cory or the Moonshell people.  I know that Romman released code to directly access the CF/SD months ago.  I also know that the last source i looked at (MoonShell v0.6) did not support file access on SuperCard flash.  So, good for Cory for merging the source.  (I thought it was Romman because they released it on their site)

Anyway, the point is that the Moonshell people are doing excellent work with codec/media support.  I would just like to see them directly support access to M3, MP, and SC flash files, as this support is what makes Moonshell truly usefull.  I believe the Moonshell author could get a SuperCard for free if he asked, so that is not an issue.

I just don't like having to depend on Cory/Romman/whomever to release new hacked versions.  There should be one common source.  Thanks again.   :)

Luckily we all have DLDI now and most homebrew will work with virtually any flashcard. Man there are so many flashcards for DS to choose from these days.  I can tell you my original Supercard SD still works great.

Here is another one of my early posts when I confessed to having sent DarkFader $6.66 via PayPal, as a joke, after he released the DS "bricker".  Apparently my gesture upset DarkFader somewhat as he mentioned it in his famous public apology.

Many of you will remember that week back in October when DarkFader released the infamous “DS bricker trojan”.  Some of you might also remember the buzz about someone who donated $6.66 to DarkFader.  Well . . . that was me.  I’m the 666guy also known as bitblt.
