SDHC Support: I never thought this would be possible, but the exact words they used ("It Will support SDHC Card") leaves no room for doubt! SDHC, which stands for Secure Digital High Capacity, supports microSD cards capacities up to 32 Gigabytes!

Wii Connectivity: it appears the next kernel will have fixed Wii connectivity. This feature is notably used in the Pok?n Diamond/Pearl games.

Game fixes: although they haven't explicitely suggested it, I do believe and hope that the next firmware will fix compatibility for important games such as Worms Open Warfare 2 and others, that require the ARM7 Fix to work.

Release date: they told me they hoped the new firmware would be ready before the end of the week, but they weren't too sure about that so I wouldn't be expecting it anytime soon.

by the way they sdhc support might not happen

hmmmm thought it was a hardware issue for SDHC ....hence the reason that SC released a SDHC version of their slot 1 card :)

will be VERY ..surprised if they say an update will make it compatible!

Well, firmware is partially hardware. If the card reader interface is part of the firmware yes it could be upgradeable.

i was under the the impression that you could not write to the firmware on the R4 has something changed recently?

fexo

Certainly Nokia has managed to upgrade their phones to take the higher capacity cards by a firmware update, so it may be possible on other devices.

To make a Update via software to suport SDHC .. the hardware must be done without the propers standarts to SD storage system..  if they had built outside this standarts it could be done a update via firmware

Btw.. I´m sure this SDHC feature is for the new R4

here are some images New and old side by side

that night and saw that bobrules had already posted some pictures.  http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=61275

I agree his could have been better, but he got here first and I didn't want to upstage him, so I haven't posted them till now.  But now I see in a couple other topics that there are noises about wanting better pictures.  http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=62231

I hope these make everyone happy.

Yeah, why start a new topic?  Well, just adding to the others may not bring readers back that had otherwise already dismissed them.  If considered bad form, sorry.

Enjoy...

NOTE:  The new version is on the right except in the exploded views where the parts are laid out.  In those I just left them as is and rotated the sheet of paper they were lying on.  Look for the reliefs in the side of the case.  That's the new version.

some devices have limiting hardware, therefore a firmware update wont fix it, however some have limiting firmware, where an update will

SD and SDHC differ only by addressing method (sector addressing vs byte addressing), imho if something is not made compatible is just a commercial matter (who said SC? ;) ).
Even DS Link, that was the 1st Slot1, now has support for SDHC...

kkan

REALLY HOPING this is implimented soon as a 6gb SDHC micro sd is available for around £40 ;D ;D ;D
