I am so lost, some people say you need iR shell and some say not.  Then there is also the kernal thing :(

Could anyone show some simple steps to run brew on 3.90m33?

P.S.I have 1.50 kernal

You don't need to have iR Shell, personally I've never tried the program because it looks too complicated to set up and I don't really need it.

YOU MUST HAVE A PHAT PSP TO INSTALL THE 1.50 KERNEL, IF YOU HAVE A SLIM I CAN'T HELP YOU SORRY!

If you haven't installed the 1.50 Kernel yet here's how,

1. Download the 1.50 firmware file from http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/4
2. Download the 3.90 M33 1.50 Kernel Addon from http://exophase.com/files/psp/150k_addon390.rar
3. Extract "EBOOT_1.50.zip" to any location, I extract to my desktop, you can extract to where you want though
4. Rename "EBOOT.PBP" to "150.PBP"
5. Extract the "150k_addon" folder in the "150k_addon390.rar" file to the any location, I prefer to extract to the place where the 150.PBP file is, you can extract it where you want though
6. Put the PSP in USB mode and copy the "150.PBP" file to the root of the memory stick
7. Copy the "150k_addon" folder to X:\PSP\GAME (X being your PSP drive letter)
8. Exit USB mode and check your battery life, make sure it's at a reasonable charge percentage (in the 80% region is good)
9. Scroll across to the Game icon, then down to Memory Stick then run the 1.50 kernel update file (should be the first file on the list)
10. After extracting some files (or file) it will ask you if you want to install the kernel (you will lose Korean font and LocationFreePlayer if you install, no biggie really), press X to install or R trigger if you want to quit (pressing X was pretty hard for me the first time I installed a kernel :P)
11. It will overwrite and change A LOT of .prx files, don't worry this is normal, it is amazing to see how many things have to be changed to run homebrew
12. After it's done a message will tell you it's going to restart the PSP in 7 seconds, just wait for it to restart itself
13. Put the PSP in USB mode and delete the "150.PBP" file from the root of the memory stick and delete "150k_addon" from X:\PSP\GAME, they are no longer needed
14. Your PSP is now ready to run homebrew! Enjoy!

Here's the steps to run homebrew after you've installed the 1.50 kernel,

1. Fully shutdown the PSP by holding the power switch up until the green light blinks
2. Turn on the PSP and quickly press and hold the R Trigger to access the M33 recovery menu
3. Click on "Configuration"
4(a). Scroll down to "Game folder homebrew" and press X to change it to "1.50 Kernel"
4(b). OPTIONAL! In the same "Configuration" list press X on "Hide corrupt icons" so it's enabled (this selection should be just above "Game folder homebrew") (this option will hide the corrupt icons shown with some homebrew)
5. Click "back" at the top of the list.
6. Click "Exit" on the main menu (the one you went back into), this will exit recovery and start up the PSP
7. Go into USB Mode and put the homebrew application folder in X:\PSP\GAME (X being your PSP drive letter) (folder should contain the "EBOOT.PBP", some homebrew has two folders for example "Daedalus" and "Daedalus%" in this case drag both folders to the same location)
8. Exit USB mode and on the XMB scroll to the Game icon, then scroll down to Memory Stick and press X
9. The homebrew app should be listed under there, just hover over it and press X to start it up
10. Enjoy your homebrew application!

These are the basic steps to running homebrew, some homebrew require you to set up more things but this is the general formula.

Example homebrew installation time :). It made me feel more confident installing my first homebrew program with a walkthrough for a specific program so here's one for you ;),
Information: Daedalus is a N64 emulator on the PSP, it's kind of choppy but it's still amazing and runs some games very well.

This is assuming you've already turned the kernel onto 1.50, if you haven't there are step-by-step instructions above.
1. Download Daedalus R13 from http://dl.qj.net/Daedalus-PSP-R13-for-FW-v1.50+-PSP-Emulators/pg/12/fid/15047/catid/330 (scroll down and click on the orange "Download" button )
2. Extract the "Daedalus" and "Daedalus%" folders from "daedalus_psp_R13_v150.zip"
3(a). Put the PSP in USB mode and put the "Daedalus" and Daedalus%" folders in X:\PSP\GAME (X being your PSP drive letter)
3(b). OPTIONAL! Put some N64 ROMs in the "Roms" folder, X:\PSP\GAME\Daedalus\Roms (X being your PSP drive letter)
4. Exit USB mode and on the XMB scroll across to the Game icon, scroll down to the Memory Stick then load "Daedalus" (Daedalus should be the first file on the list)
5. It should load fine and you should have a selection of ROM(s) to play
6. Enjoy!

NOTE: Some homebrew applications are required to be in the "GAME150" or "GAME380" instead of the "GAME" folder, if a homebrew application doesn't work try putting it in the "GAME150" folder then if that doesn't work try the "GAME380" folder, if it still doesn't work, you'll have to request help on the specific application.
NOTE: Some homebrew applications don't have an extra folder with a percentage symbol (%) after the name, don't worry, just put the single folder in the same spot.

Phew, that took longer to write than I thought haha, hope it helped :).
Sorry if you have a slim by the way, I think there's a way to run homebrew on them but I own a phat so I don't know how to do it.

Wow! Thanks a lot for that man.  I found that I wasn't installing both folders (%) and now deadalus works  :)  :smitten:

If you have a slim you will soon be able to run 1.5 firmware.  You CAN do so currently thanks to Dark-Alex's "Time Machine" mod but it's not up to what I'd call release-quality yet, from what I've heard.

What homebrew do you run?

Myself I have a Genesis emulator, an NES emulator, an SNES emulator, a Commodore 64 emulator, and PMP Player Advance.

If you're looking for a genesis emulator, I'd strongly strongly recommend you go the extra mile and figure out where to get the Slim-compatible version of Picodrive.  Maybe it's only in Vectorman, but it's literally night and day performance-wise compared to DGEN.  Like... for instance in DGEN I get around 45 fps during most regular areas, if there's anything serious going on it drops further.  Normal is 60 fps.  I have to turn off audio to get stable 60 fps.  In Picodrive, I get constant 60 fps, and the only change in this in any situation is when it accidentally renders at 61 fps :)  I get full audio too.  It's so smooth :D

Sadly DGen is more full-featured, with the ability to speed up emulation to skip through lengthy crap intros, but both have anytime save support.

I only play Deadalus, all the other consoles play fine on my DS :)
