Saving with NesDS?

Probably a stupid question, but bear with me. I hit L+R and choose "save state" but the save state is only good for as a long as the DS in on. If I turn it off and on again, it disappears. Is it supposed to be like this? Any way of making it stick? Thanks.

Are you sure you don't mean PocketNES?  NES DS uses the L and R buttons for fast-forward and rewind, not opening the menu.

With the Supercard's built-in version of PocketNES, you need to press L+R+A+Select after you've saved stuff to make sure it gets written to the *.sav file on your card.  This includes SRAM saves, savestates, etc.

With NES DS, tap the touchscreen to open the menu, go to the File tab, and save the state from there, which should save directly to the card.

Thanks. Yes, I meant PocketNes. I did try NesDS but never got it to run.

I tried L+R+A+Select but it would simply take me to the PocketNes menu (same as pressing simply L+R). I just now realized (duh) it's probably because I'm just dropping the NES roms in the card, so there's no .sav files. Do I need to run the NES roms through the patcher or is it enough to rename any .sav files to match the roms? In this case, what's the necessary size for the .sav file?

Thanks again!

You need to have a blank *.sav file named the same as the NES rom in order for it to work.  The "save.sav" file in "C:\Program Files\SC" is a blank save file of the correct size (64 kb) that you can use.

You'll still open the PocketNES menu when doing the button combination, but it shouldn't hurt anything.
