OK so Dragon Quest IV just came out in Japan like, today. There is a partially completed english translation script in the japanese cart and it can be unlocked using action replay/codebreaker etc...

I got the AR code over at the slimeknights forum (creds to KiTA) and made an .scc file to use in your supercard software.

Where to put it in/how to do it:

-Load up your "1697 - Dragon Quest IV (J)" rom into the supercard software.
-Right-click->properties
-Select "Enable Cheat" at the bottom, browse to the .scc file, OK, output, copy all 3 files to memory card, PLAY!

Keep in mind its not fully translated-- you will get weird error messages instead of dialog and some parts are still in japanese. **The entire opening prologue is untranslated.** But for all you DQ fanatics, this is the closest thing until a US release

Oh yeah. I have a slot-2 Supercard CF. Not sure how cheats work with Slot-1s, so no instructions for those.

if you replace the 1 at the end you can get other languages as well, i haven't tested the others though.

0 = JP, (japanese)
1 = EN  (english)
2 = FR (french)
3 = DE (german)
4 = IT (italian)
5 = ES (spanish)

All languages are working but when you trying to put in a name you have to use japanese Letters

Edit: At conversations coming a message named "ERROR_MID <NUMBER>" this coming at german , english , spanish, italian and french. Only item names and menus are in the "Cheat Language".

Like I said, the entire prologue is untranslated. Here's how to get to the first Chapter [with dialogue translations]:

-Wake up. A dude talks to you. Continue through his MID dialog till he asks you something, select Yes.

-Break all the barrels/jars, get the items, go up the stairs.

-Move west over the bridge-- a frog jumps out and goes back down the stairs. Go back down the stairs...

-Talk to the girl, she'll morph into a bunch of stuff then leave.

-Go back up the stairs, over the bridge, and then enter the first house south of the man in the field . If you don't use L and R to rotate the screen, it will be the first house on the left hand side when you move south from the bridge. The house will have two rooms with a man sitting at a table with a lady at a stove.

-Talk to the man sitting at the table [who i assume is your dad], he will talk to his wife [your mom!?], and after a few more MID boxes it will fade to black, MID ask you to save (just hit 'yes') and then transition into the first "Chapter" with translated dialogue.


This way you can skip all the MID dialog with the other villagers. You can go back and play the classic DW4 for NES if you really want to know what they're saying, lol. But I assume its all greetings fluff.

I'm driving myself crazy trying to figure this out. I have all these programs and converters and have no idea how to get this AR code into an .scc file. Does anyone just have the .scc file for upload or is there a simple explanation of how to make this work?

I checked Enable Add Cheat" in the options tab, I hit enable cheat in the properties, selected the 1697.scc file. I patched it, named all 3 files the same, added them. I don't know why its not working. When I take control of the old guy I should be able to hit whatever the hotkey is right, and there should be english? I've been doing this for about an hour, I'm gonna go play xbox for a while or eat something before I start sobbing like a big man child.
