Your question will yield a more accurate answer if you mention what games (GBA/NDS/NES ROMs etc etc)
nimal Crossing :
Larson" from "Havenile" of Zip code "0816-6534-7899".
Mario Kart DS : 519750-640786 (Larson)
Tony Hawk : 137499-350825 (Larson)

DS games it's a little hard to get a good number since their sizes range from 64mb (bomberman) to 512mb (phoenix wright, castlevania, etc etc) with games that will be 1024mb coming out later.

To further complicate things, some people (myself included) get lockups in games if the cards are 100% full. So I have to leave a good 15-20% of my card empty or I won't be able to play any games without lockups.

Just to clarify alittle.... the DS game sizes are in megaBITS not bytes.  It you want a perfect comparison between the SD card and game size, divide game size by 8 or mutiply card size by 8.  So a 512 mbit DS game would be 64 mbytes.
S Setup:
1st Gen DS
Flashme 5 w/ Superpass and Supercard SD
Limited edition Miyamoto signed orange DS Skin
Limited edition Kirby! pink stylus
Now Playing: Nintendogs w/ Jack Russel Terrier

Which everyone who has ever used a GBA or NDS flash card should know by now. Hence I used mb and not MB.

My point was that DS games have a larger variety in sizes then most other systems do. So it's really hard to say how many "games" you can fit on each card.

You may know that, but we've gotta try to help the newbs.  If the topic poster doesn't know how many games can fit on something, how will he know the difference between mb and Mb when it could be a capitalization error?

GBA games... okay, let's say the average GBA game is 16 MB

If that's the case, we could say

7 on 128MB
15 on 256MB
31 on 512MB.

Why one less on each? Well... all SD/CF cards have a little less then how much they actually say.  Also, you have to take into account that you also need room for the sav files and save state files if you choose to use those as well.

Now these aren't the only things to take into account. You can also compress your GBA roms. This will save a fairly good amount of space, but it takes longer to load up the game.

Using compression, you should be able to get an average of 1/3rd more games... so that'd be about

9 on 128MB
20 on 256MB
41 on 512MB

This is, again, assuming that you are using 16MB GBA roms and that compression makes them about 1/3rd smaller.

Hope that helps.

ACTUALLY, its MB for the supercard and Mb for a regular flash card, you know, trying to help the Newbs 8)

9 gba games on a 128meg sd card? HAHAHAHHAHAHA

more like 20-30 buddy

right now im using a 1gig card and i cant even begin to fill it up.  its at 135mb and there's 39 games so far on it and thats including saves.  and yes we are talking about GBA games.  That is also including a .GBA rom with about 85 NES games on it.

Double check who you quote please. I was not the one that say mb and Mb. I said mb and MB. It was actually slippy that said that ^_^ Also, it's pretty standard in the GBA community to use BITS instead of bytes. Nintendo talks in bits, flashcards come in bits, so when refering to GBA games in general people usually talk in bits. But for the example of size comparison for SD/CF cards, I did use MB because it can be a bit confusing.

equalizr I also suggest that you too reread what I said. I used 16MB as my average rom size (there are GBA roms as small as 4MB and as large as 32MB, so I figured 16MB would be a good size in the middle)

I then gave a conservative estimate for compression at 33%... meaning the average size for compression using my calculations was 11.xxMB for a 16MB game.

I never once said this would be exactly 100% accurate. But I do think for something I came up without doing much in the way of actual testing (I mainly use my supercard for DS, and thus don't bother with jamming my card completely full with GBA games)

Adattude

Just check the size of the roms you want to put on in windows.  Add them up and see how many you can get on your 256 sd card.  I will say that if your only getting 256 you are probably buying it in store.  Go to www.tigerdirect.com (I hope it isn't against the rules to post that) and get yourself a 1 gig card for only 60 bucks.  Or a 512 for 30!

On my 1g card, I have 40 GBA and 25 NDS games and still have 120m free.

NDS games currently range from 8M to 64M (Bytes), so in theory (ignoring the space required for saves), the most you could fit would be 128 (if they were all 8M) and only 16 if they were all 64M.

Looking at my converted roms, they average 28m each, so with this in mind, you could typically fit 35 ROMs on a 1g cart!

GBA roms are generally a lot smaller and also get compressed when you convert them, so you could fit mayn times more GBA games on a card than NDS.

I hope this helps.

I just checked my converted GBA roms too and 38 of them take up 180M, so typically, an average GBA Rom is something like 4.7M(bytes).

I know that my test isn't scientific, but since I have a 'random' selection of roms, I would imagine that its a pretty good guess.

So, an average DS ROM is 28M, where as with average GBA rom is 4.7m and a DS Rom. Bearing in mind that the GBA roms are compressed when converted.

I hope this helps
