Flashme and finishing?

OK... My Passme2 is on its way. When it arrives I will use it to get the Flashme onto my system. My question is... once I start the Flashme process and short the SL1 bridge... how will I know when it is finished. Does it say something like "Flashme Finished. You May Now Turn Off Your System"???

Just want to make sure so I do not brick my system.

sneef

it says something almost identical to what you typed!  are you psychic?
hehe.

and don't worry if the percentage counter stops along the way.. just keep trying to bridge the SL1 and it will eventually finish.  it's a little tricky sometimes to get the angle right, depending on what you use to short it.

Very good... no... that is what I was hoping it would say. That way there is no confusing when it is done. I think I am going to try a flat head screwdriver that is made for eyewear (Glasses) repair. That should work... and I know that If I lose bridge connection "DO NOT" turn off the DS, but try to repostition the short and continue to Flashme.

The Passme2 should be here this week... so I'll keep you posted.

Thanks

jmr

yeah my passme2 on the way to i got it with mario64 code on it
for my new blue DS with supercard but doing the cory thing sounds very complicated so im just gonna try & get flashme to work

Actually the Cory method seems to be VERY easy to do...

Quote1 - get this file:
http://www.scdev.org/download.php?type=misc&version=iqsram
2 - if you dont have metroid demo, but have other games, you will need to create a new .sav file that works with your games. See the link below to Lynx's site for more info, or if you have a dump of one of the games you own, you can create your own.
3 - once you have the save file straigtened away, put the IQSRAM.sav and IQSRAM.gba onto your SD/CF card. You may also want to go to the site below and get the firmware update and put that on your SD/CF as well, as well as all the tools you will need to short SL1 if this is your first time flashing the DS.
4 - Assemble the CF/SD and supercard, put that into the DS, and have your PassMe2 handy (ie ready to put in really quick, with a game already in it)
5 - start your DS with no PassMe, and run the GBA file IQSRAM.gba (this loads the SRAM file you are going to use)
6 - Very quickly, you have a small bit of time to do this though, Turn off the DS, put PassMe2 and the game into the DS slot and turn back on the DS.
7 - if everything went well you can now upgrade your DS firmware with flashme V4+, or do the Quick Power Cycle IQue PassMe Insertion (QPC-IQPI) every time.

The file in step 1 contains the SRAM bin from loopy's IQue hack, Im assuming its the metroid demo one:

It says "100% - flashing finished" when its done, no worries, it definitely tells you when its done ;)

The method I describe isnt all that complex, if you need a hand generating the SRAM file for it with a different game than Metroid Demo let me know and I will track down a dump or use the info on Natriums site to make it for you ;)

It is simpler if you use a flashcart, but if you dont have one it can still be done with SuperCard (and M3, but it is actually complex with M3  :? )

You dont need an ultra tiny screwdriver for bridging SL1 (except to open the battery cover) and actually even a wide headed toothpick with aluminum foil on it can work- some people have used nails, hex wrenches, a bent fork and who knows what else to do it

There is actually an EVEN SIMPLER way, head over to this threads post by PepsiMan - he wrote a GBA with all the games he could find in it that generates the SRAM file
http://forum.gbadev.org/viewtopic.php?t=7301

It should work with one of the GBA's for normal flashcarts ;) Just tested with my supercard, you pick the 4 digit gamecode and it copies the info to the SRAM, then you can put your passme2 in and turn off the DS and turn it back on again, and it should boot to the SC DS menu, which you can then do flashme from ;) (all 3 of the versions in his post worked on my SC from gba mode btw)

I posted the question in a wrong section, so I try it again here:

Can you check which version of Flashme you have? (cause someone else flashed my DS and I didn't ask what version he put on it)

No, there is nothing that will check the current version of flashme. Essentially, they are virtually the same, except the V5 one which will require you to short SL1 again. V1-4 sort of reflect the #of different firmwares it is compatible with (IE: V4 was compatible with 4 different firmwares), while V5 is completely different (all packed firmwares that are used with the launching keys are more packed to not take up the space that wifi settings were written to from the sample mariokart that is out there).

I'd hazard a guess that you likely have V3 on yours (it was up for a long time with no real changes), update to V4 would have been painless (no need to short SL1) but you can easily use it to move to the latest one...

edit:/ oh and if you are going by the recent "Flashme V3 is compatible with mario kart" that V number is bogus and copied from misinfo at maxconsole.net, just check the link they give, the official page even says its V5 (I guess the person that posted the news origionally didnt bother to look)

cory1492,

Two quick questions. First... I can use you method on my new Pure White NDS and go directly to version 5... I don't need to have v4 on it already do I? Just want to make sure before I do it.

Two... What is easier or best to use to get Flashme on the DS... The Supercard and your method or using a Flashcart? I have both.

Yes, you don't need to use version 4 first. You can go straight to version 5 without and problems.

The supercard method requires an extra couple of steps, but really both work the same and both are fairly easy to follow.

Cory, you're the MAN. I mean, I ask a question, and I simply get 3 answers back. Damn, it's good to know there are people like you on this board. I have flashed V5 by now on my DS. Worked great!

Oh, and tell your dad he has to wash his mouth, yeah?
