I think my DS bricked itself while I was sleeping...help me!

Alright, so I've got a v2 firmware silver DS and as of yesterday, finally had my SuperCard SD, 1GB Kingston Elite Pro SD card, a working WiFiMe card (Hawking HWC54G), and a chunk of time big enough to get everything done.  So I set out to get my DS running homebrew code.  I updated the SuperCard SD's firmware to version 1.54 (copied the file to it, ran it on the DS, restarted and help L/R, the firmware said version 1.54), and tested DS Download Play with the Ralink drivers (Meteos demo -- worked just great!) then tested WiFiMe with a backup copy of the Metroid Prime Hunters demo -- also worked just great.  At this point I was ready to flash my DS, so I followed the tutorial for WiFiMe & FlashMe here on this site (downloaded the flashmepatched.nds file from rapidshare.de and used that one).

I had some trouble shorting out SL1, but I kept my DS plugged in and eventually got it to make contact and get all the way to 100% and get the message that it had completed successfully.  I tried playing a couple backups of my games, and they all worked just fine.  So I played some Kart, Tony Hawk, Nintendogs, and Mario 64 before putting the DS on the charger and heading to bed (using SuperCard soft-resets between each game).  When I woke up this morning to try playing it...

My DS is looking very, very bricked.  What the fuck?!  When I push the power button, the green light comes on but both screens stay blank and nothing happens -- same thing when it's hooked back into the charger.  Same thing also happens regardless of whether or not the SuperCard is in the GBA slot or my legal copy of Mario Kart DS is in the DS slot.  The only suspect thing I can really think of that I did on the SuperCard last night was trying to connect to Nintendo WFC with a backup copy of Kart via the SuperCard, and it all worked about the same as it has on my authentic version (Regional mode, finds one or two opponents really slowly, they both drop, and you're left with nothing).

So, um.  After apparently working absolutely perfectly yesterday (I followed the WiFiMe guide to a T) I think my fucking DS is bricked.  Is there anything I can do at this point, or is there any further diagnostic you guys could recommend to try and get this shit sorted out?  I'm pretty scared that I may have just thrown a bunch of cash down the drain, and I hope to hell that's not true because I friggin' love this thing.  Any further help would be super super appreciated.  Thanks, guys... as always.

pmsl, sorry, but it sounds like you have bricked it with not using the proper flashme v5.
mario kart needs flashme v5,as it still writes to a portion of unreferenced memory.
thats my opinion anyhoo,id get looking around this forum on how to unbrick it.
still dont understand why youd need wifi me though,a simple card reader is all that would be required for placing files on the SC and to update it.

eek... I used whatever version of FlashMe that the "Wifime" guide on this website links you to.  It's this file: http://rapidshare.de/files/6024801/flashmepatched.nds.html

Is there a way to tell what version that is?

You must use flashme v5 or newer to play MKDS or THAS. Avoid random links and always download it from the official site here: http://ds.gcdev.com/dsfirmware/

From that website:
QuoteFail-safe feature: The first part of firmware is write-protected with the SL1 contact. In case malware erases the rest, you can still reinstall FlashMe from GBA cartridge by holding START+SELECT+A+B keys.

So you might wanna try that.

Ah, thanks much.  The SuperCard recovery procedure described on the FlashMe website worked just fine and I re-shorted SL1 and everything turned out great, this time with correct firmware.  I immediately tried Kart online again and it didn't jack shit up, so it looks like my sorry ass is saved.  I guess the lesson to be learned here is that no matter what, you should always use the latest file from the official website -- pretty bad carelessness on my part.

Anyway, hugest of thanks for helping me out.  I thought I'd bricked my DS for sure.  You guys rock.

It was an easy mistake to make, there is a lot to know with regard to the Supercard and FlashMe.

But now that you have FlashMe installed at least you have a reliable safety net.  Have fun :)

Well, the good thing is that now you have the experience on what to do to recover the DS if ever you need to. This is exactly the reason why flashing the DS is BETTER than not flashing the unit. It is extra added protection.
