I have a couple of questions for anyone on the forums that has a modded gamecube

1. how is it? does it work well?
2. what modchip do you have?
3. what is the best modchip?
4. was it pretty easy to install?
5. what sites can i order the mod chips and modded cases for cheap?
6. whats the best modchip for the cheapest price?
7. is there any good emulators/ home brew for gamecube?

i think those are all the questions for now

If you like the easy way  ...  http://modthatcube.pxn-os.com/content/softmod3.htm   you can run any bios with it.

You will still need a new case so you can fit in normal size discs, so the whole thing can become quite expensive.

I got no idea what a modded cube is like as I decided against it because of the cost compared to how many titles the gamecube has.

I already have a modded everything else (360 to come soon, waiting for the price to drop and the dust to settle)  ;)

well the cases are $20 - $25 from what ive seen that i dont mind
and then ive seen modchips around the same price while others are $50 - $60 which is why i want to know which chips are better/worth the price tag because if i can get the case and the chip for $50 - $60 i think it would be worth it

i have a case mod installed, and i use a softmod (max drive pro) with GCOS and GCOM.  It works great!  with the new GCOS multidisc public beta, I can play all the 2-disc games that werent' supported before.  And using either of these, combined with the broadband adapter, you can stream an entire game disc (retail or backup) to your PC, to be stored or burned onto a blank.

I also bought a QoobSX chip, but haven't installed it yet, because I'm fine with my softmod, and I have shaky hands, so can't do the soldering myself.

I got a QOOB SX chip (fairly easy installation... I am not very experienced at soldering and it was a breeze) and just use the mini Ritek G04 DVDS.  I considered costs and the 50 DVDs I found cost less than a case mod.  I've only burned about 20 of the DVDs... so I really don't use it much.  It rekindled my GC usage briefly... I would say it was worth it, but I wouldnt have wanted to spend much more money.  Overall I ended up spending under $100 for the chip and the discs.

If I order mini DVDs, can I use them with the MAX Drive Pro to run backups on the Gamecube? Or must I buy a case mod and normal DVDs? I would much rather purchase the MAX Drive Pro and mini DVDs to run backups rather than replacing my case.

DeVS

I got a Viper (not extreme) and the replacement case and use Verbatim DvD's with no problems. Soldering was simple.

Not sure as the max drive pro uses a boot disc, I don't know the size of the disc, but from the pic in this link it looks small .. http://scdev.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4978   .so probably yes as the case mod is only needed so you can fit in standard size discs. Try and get 'sneef' to answer to know for sure.

the max drive pro boot disc is a "mini DVD" (normal gamecube disc size).  You can run mini-dvd backups with the max drive pro, without a case mod.  I just got the case mod because where i live, each ritek G04 mini-DVD costs over 2 dollars (even buying in bulk!)..  and ritek full-sized G05 DVDs cost about 30 cents (when buying 25 or more)...

But in the mainland USA (not AK or HI), there are cheap sources for the mini-DVDs, so I would have not needed to buy the casemod.  i got my case mode for less than 20 bucks, so it was worth it

[EDIT] One thing I like about the max drive pro is that it's fairly easy to load .dol files (gamecube executables) onto it.  I currently have 4 different loaders, 2 game-disc streaming apps, and miscellaneous other tools on mine.. The only downside to the max drive pro is the boot disc.  It's kind of scary to know that if that disc gets cracked, or horribly scratched, you can't boot from the max drive pro.  Datel WILL replace it for $10 (i think that's the figure) if you send them the broken disc.
