I just got my SCminiSD / SKey combo today, and the miniSD should arrive tomorrow. I've got a few questions before I jump in ...

1. What happens to file and folder names in the Supercard menu? Are long filenames supported, or does everything turn into NewSu~1.nds.dsq ?
Should I rename my files, and/or folders, to compensate beforehand?

2. Does the T.txt file in the SC/out folder serve any purpose? I was about to delete it and then thought maybe the client uses it as a logfile or something.

3. Is updating the firmware just a matter of putting sd_162.bin in the root dir of the miniSD and booting it up?

4. Saving NES games using the built in emu seems cumbersome frpm what I've read. Does pocketNES run and save reliably? Anything special have to be done to it, or just write PocketNESMenu.gba directly to the miniSD?

5. Can you think of anything you "learned the hard way" that a newbie should know?

thanks

1. Long file names are supported but only the first 26 characters are displayed.

2. Serves no purpose AFAIK. I deleted mine and software still works normally.

3. Yes

4. No need for the Pocketnes.gba file. Emu is built into firmware so all you need to do is put .nes files directly on the card. In order to save, you need to use a .sav and name it the same as the NES rom.

QuoteEmulated games, like GBA games, require a .sav file in order to save to the CF card.
- The ROM and its save file must be in the same directory, and share the same name, just as a GBA game.
- Example: Tetris.nes may be the name of a NES ROM, so Tetris.sav would need to be the name of the save file.
- To create a save file for emulated games, you can copy the "save.sav" file in the SuperCard software's folder, and rename it as previously described.
NES games save like GBA games. After saving ingame, just do the button combo to save to card or do a realtime savestate.

5. Well basically remembering to do the button combo for saving GBA and emu games lol. There are many times the game pissed me off and I turned off my DS in anger without saving lol.

1. I would suggest renaming them smaller as yes that will happen to most long filenames. I keep my files in different folders like all GBA games in that folder, all BREW in its folder, DS in its folder, etc.

2. It does nothing, you can delete it and even set the patcher program to not make it on out.

3. Yup, put it on the Mini-SD and run it.

4. I never use the built-in emu's as they aren't updated like the ones you can get for free on the net. If you're having problems try the free ones that you put on the card.

5. You can have two DS games on your Supercard by just renaming the files something different. You can also download the saves manager in the Supercard DEV forum on this site to do the same thing and save space. Also, the Supercard will sort files on date, FAT 16 setup, so you will have to copy the contents back to your hard drive then back to the Mini-SD to sort it by alpha. The Supercard is great and doesn't require and "hard" learning!

Thats not true. The files do not get renamed anymore.

Tip.. when you add a ds rom double click it in the list or right click and choose properties for the DS options, you can then enable trim rom, and in game reset.. faster gameplay should already be on by default. I reccomend to have all 3 on for every rom. Note you have to set IGR and trim rom for every ds rom you add.

Thought I'd mention it as a few users miss the DS options. Also note the options tab at the top is only for gba roms.
Yes I'm mad

thanks m.g.

by the way I learned at gbatemp that the file order problem can be resolved using an app called FATsort

http://hem.passagen.se/chsw/FATSort.html

it will rearrange the files in a FAT directory or drive into alpha order. The 1.04beta is several years old, but those who are using it say it works like a charm.

No, they don't get renamed but you can't see them. I make my names easy to read so I can figure out what game I want to play. And yes that program work great!
