Just to let everyone know, this is my first post ever So forgive me if I do something I’m not supposed to. Anyway can someone explain to me about this Bricker virus? I’ve read, some pages about it on various sites, but haven’t found one that will answer my specific questions so I’m hoping that someone here can answer them.

1.     I know this virus erases parts of your firmware, but does it erase the firmware on the supercard, the Nintendo DS or both?
2.     How does one get this virus? Does it come in homebrew software or can it come on a commercial rom like New Super Mario Bros for example.
3.     Can an anti virus like Norton’s Anti Virus identify this virus?
4.     I’ve read that if you have a flashed NDS that you are immune to this. Is this true?
5.     If you have a flashed NDS and you get this virus. Can you just simply put updated firmware onto you root of your supercard and updated your firmware to fix it?
6.     Is this bricker thing still floating around?  I know it originated from Dark Faders website (The main reason why I won’t even go to that site) Is it the only one or are there others like it I don’t know about.
Sorry for all the questions. It’s just that I paid 500 dollars for my supercard and Nintendo DS and I don’t really feel like waving goodbye to 500 bucks.

1. It erases part of the DS lite or/and Supercard/M3 firmware as well
2. Homebrew apps and ROMs can be potentially injected with the bricker, so be sure to get your applications from a trusted site
3. Norton will not detect it as a virus, as it doesn't contain the same vicious code as for a Windows worm/trojan
4. You aren't immune, but because you flashed your NDS, you have the recovery mode at which you can easily re-flash your NDS and live life happily again
5. Yes
6. The person who created the bricker software apologized and said he would stop, but it doesn't mean there aren't others that would want to spread this malware, so as long as you get all your stuff from legit, trustworthy sites then you should be fine.

$500!? This isn't US currency is it!?

LOL I was kinda really worried too, but then I realized, the sites I got to would never screw me over....  and usually there are a dozen people who try the rom first b4 its my turn :)

Thanks for the answers marzxbarz. That puts me at ease a little. Maybe I shouldn't be so paranoid.  But what' s this about the recovery mode? I wasn't the one who flashed my NDs. It was already flashed and ready to go when I bought it.  And yes the 500 dollars was in US.

Whoa, that's a little over two times the price you would pay if you had done it all yourself. Anyways, the recovery mode is written in the lower layers of the FlashMe firmware, which bricker's cannot write over. Holding START+SELECT+A+B while turning your NDS on will boot it directly to the GBA slot, which you then can re-run the flashme on your card.
