This is my guide to WifiMe- and WMBing with a Nintendo USB stick or any other compatible RT2570/RT2500usb/rt2500 (PCI) device.
My guide works with Knoppix in VMplayer, thus gaining Windows support, Knoppix as a live CD, OpenSuse and any other system capable of running VMplayer.
If you follow the steps I have set out with the OpenSuse part of my guide (it is one guide, but set up under different topics) on any other Linux system it should work aswel (there is the off chance that you will need to use the VMPlayer USB zip instead, OpenSuse does not understand the original make file, so I had to adjust it).

You can find my guide on my Nintendo DS page (direct link to the howto):

Time for my July Compo surprise!
I have added video's to my guide (to the Windows/Knoppix Guide, as it is the hardest), and have zipped these together.
These video's are around 260Mb.
My bandwith is not very high, and neither is the speed of my server.
So please bear that in mind when downloading.
If anyone is willing to mirror them for me (maybe scdev.org?) I would be very greatfull.

I Hope you all enjoy my howto, and that it maybe even get you all either joining the Nintendo DS homebrew scene, or getting you Linuxing :).

Yours,
Simon van de Berg

p.s. Any tips or etc. are always welcome and are appreciated!
Post them on this forum.

Thank you very much, and you are probably now also hosting the video, I've found the video on your mirror and am updating my pages now :).

*edit*
Could you remove your link to your hosting?
I have updated my pages :), now linking to your hosting for my video!
Thanks again!

@ratx: Shouldn't you fix the video link in the mirror? It doesn't point to the video on the mirror.

Whoops, someone wrote explicit links in the HTML ;) well spotted... all NA now, just follow the link on Scors updated page..

I hope you all enjoy!

I do want to empathise this again.
Although this is the only way to run WMB/WifiMe under Windows when using a Nintendo USB device (or any other compatible rt2570/rt2500usb device), I highly recommend you use the real system version (Knoppix, or if you prefer OpenSuse, but OpenSuse does require an installation).

VMplayer works, but the succesrate (you can try to play around with the transfer rate via the WMB tool's flag -t to increas it) is much lower, and the location of your Nintendo DS is very important.
I have had a large amount of different reports when VMplayer is used.
Personally, I get about 1 out of 2 or 3 downloads correctly, whereas a friend of mine gets nearly all downloads, even when he has set an incredably fast transfer rate, near 100% succesrate.
I have however also hear people needing more then 7 or 8 attempts.

When you use a real system the succesrate of a download is nearly always 100%, even at higher distanses or transfer rates.

Hope this helps you all :).

I'm looking into adding a few things to my guide.
If it works I will add them as soon as possible :), and make a few people happy :D.

I personally hope it works, as it will be quite usefull to people.
I hope I can fix it all up so I can add it before monday!

Okay, I've done a lot of testing but I've come at the point where I can't do any more.
I've been working on trying to get it all to work under Knoppix 5.0.1 but sadly what ever I tried it does not work.

I have however written faster shells (that do not compile, but copy pre-compiled versions) and a new ZIP file.
Those are beta (aka I know they work on my system, and I have faith they will work on other systems that have their usb stick mounted on /mnt/sda1 and that are running Knoppix 4.0.2), so I will add a extra part to my howto for "slower" systems in which I also state it is beta.

I have also looked into trying to get the rt2560 chipset to work.
Sadly I do not have a rt2560, and I have yet to find someone who does have one willing to test out my attempts (it is the same as with the rt2570, and you can run it all via VMplayer too).

Anyway, I will add a "Windows/NO-OS installed/Anything that runs VMPlayer part for slow systems" part to my guide.
In that guide I will also explain how to get the PCI/PCMCIA version (aka the rt2560) of the chipset to work (or well, I will explain how to try out my attempt in the hopes it works).
It may take a while before I have made and uploaded it all (seeing as it is somewhat tough).

I have added the BETA untested rt2500 support (I have no idea if it will work, if you test it please let me know) and added the slow-system version to my howto.
The same link can be followed (I have added a new option, maybe you will have to flush your chache).

*edit*
I think I will also look into using the linux rt2500 driver
(Okay, I'm switching to the rt2500 linux driver (I'll keep the ndiswrapper thing if anyone wants to test it and report back ;).)

Scor

There we are, switched to the other driver.
I can now (pretty much safely) say that you can also WMB/WifiMe with your rt2500 PCI card (with the slow system part/version of my howto).

So changelog of my howto :):
-Added slow system part (not compiling modules, rt2570/rt2500usb will not work with newer versions of knoppix)
-Added rt2500 PCI support to the slow system part (will work with newer versions of Knoppix)
Todo:
-Add rt2500 support to original VMPlayer/Windows/No-OS part

Scor

Added rt2500 support to original VMPlayer/Windows/No-OS part.

Sorry for so many changes :).
I've just been on a roll since this morning, haven't left my PC since I got up.
Anyway, now the rt2500 PCI should be supported (so people with a new DSlite and a rt2500 PCI card should now be able to WMB once again).

Scor

Hmm, I was wondering if the topic could be renamed to Howto WifiMe/WMB with an RT2570/rt2500usb/rt2500(PCI) device!
But the title bar is too short :P.

Scor

Added a better main page for the howto, makes it clearer for people to choose the correct version.

Scor

Fixed a few things in rt2500 support (if it didn't work before, refresh your cache of my page and redo all steps a.k.a. clear your USB stick and download everything again).
If you run into trouble please post it here so I can look into it.
