Transcend or Kingston MicroSD?

I was wondering if anyone had an opinion on these two cards or has used either one with their SCL?

I have been reading so many different opinions...yes, get a high speed card, no you don't really need a high speed card.  What is the truth!?

Here's a link to both of the cards, as far as I know, they are both standard speed.  Should I hold out and get a high speed one?  A tiny bit of slowdown in a small number of games really doesn't bother me, especially when I would have to spend an extra $20 for a high speed card.

Thanks.

I'd guess they were regular speed 12x but out of them I would go for the Kingston.

Or for an extra $4 the Sandisk so you know it will be okay as many have used that already.

Check Amazon.  1 gig Sandisk MicroSD @ 30.00 USD.  Standard speed.

Isn't the Transcend card faster than the Sandisk?

Here's a product description from one of the websites in Australia selling it:

1GB TRANSCEND MICRO SD CARD (TRANSFLASH) - for latest mobile /Smartphones & PDA - made from high performance SLC flash, faster than Sandisk Transfash

Wouldn't this make it a better choice than the Sandisk OR the Kingson (which i believe is the same speed as the Sandisk. Or am i wrong?) ?

as far as I know, the transcend is better than kingston or sandisk.

I have a kingston and a sandisk, and while they are supposed to be the same, the kingston seems to be faster in bursts, but not as good in sustained read speeds..  the transcend is better on paper (in specs) than both of them.

Transcend is a very good brand of memory. Kingston is cheap memory and I would avoid it at all costs. Usually Transcend's memory is 60X or higher if not specified.

That has been posted many times but as most people know almost everything from Hong Kong is fake. Also, SanDisk hasn't even sent this 2GB microSD out to any reputable stores. I would stay far away.

That's a gross generalization and mostly untrue. Most things from Hong Kong are NOT fake. Especially from reputable dealers lke the one selling that particular item. It's like saying most things from China are fake when in fact most original items are in fact manufactured in China.

Then there are the greymarket items which are neither "fake" nor "original" in terms of being manufactured with authorization (ie they extend the manufacturing run beyond what was ordered and sell the extra units at a lower cost, the warranty will bethe same because the company which licensed the manufacture can't tell the difference, including valid serials). They are identical to the originals down to the atomic level (just trying to emphasize that they ARE in fact identical to the originals).

Certainly there are various grades of fakes too but there's nothing to indicate that this is fake at this stage. Remember how many people screamed fake when you posted that a friend of yours had an SC Lite?

Who exactly manufactures 2GB MicroSD modules that could be used to "fake" at the moment anyway?

What makes you think you would be personally notified when SanDisk ships their MicroSD 2GB cards? They are after all more than likely manufactured right next door in Taiwan.

My friend in the US has oredered one and it has ALREADY shipped. I will give an update when he gets it. I will get him to do all the normal tests to check if there are an capacity/speed/etc anomalies and he has also ordered an SC Lite so he'll be able to test how it works with that too.

P.S. Sorry for ranting a little but I just felt like writing down wha i though a the time. i have no intention of offending or upsetting anyone.

I am glad to hear that he ordered it as I am curious to see if it is real. However the speed on the card will be very slow as its a regular 12X microSD.

And yes, most memory sellers, from Hong Kong, on ebay sell fake items.

I also think SanDisk would have shipped these 2GB cards to major retailers rather having them dribble out to hole in the wall dealers.

It's quite possible that they are greymarket goods. in which case they're as good as the original anyway.

I'll let everyone know when he gets it but it may take a while to arrive as it's going via standard post. so 1 - 2 weeks.

Whatever happens I'll let everyone know. But I will certainly hold off purchasing 1GB MicroSD until I know where we stand with 2GB availability. Seems like they could be just weeks away.

I found some real 2gb microSD photos on SanDisks website at the link below! Still no reason why the cards haven;t been shipped to bigger online retailers as of yet?

Good find.

He'll have something to compare with. It's fairly easy to spot the poor quality printing on fake cards in most cases.

Well, it looks like I am gonna go for the transcend.

I couldn't find a read/write rate anywhere online, but I'll just give it a shot and trust the site from Australia and hope it's faster.

Just ordered my SCL from realhotstuff and microSD from newegg today.  If anyone still cares, I'll post my results whenever I get both items.

Thanks to all for the help/advice.
