Can someone help me? I'm having some saving problems on my SCLite. When I save everything is fine, when I go to 'Load Game' my save appears and I can load it. But if I turn off my DS and go back on it then the save disappears. Please help me :(.

you need to patch if first using the moonshell patcher for the sc lite, and if youve already done so, i have no idea i'm afraid :S

I manage to get to the menu but cant select any of the menu items. There is a demo game playing in the background and i can scroll the menu just not select anything. Any help?

FearnleyP

Animator,

It took me a couple of goes to work it out too!  :D

Quick keys guide:

Use START to bring up the menu.

Use SELECT to choose items on the menu

Don't select the hardest skill level (it will ask you to press 'y' and there's no key mapped   )

In-game:

D-Pad: move
A: fire
B: open / use
X: run (hold whilst moving)
Y: change weapon

shoulder buttons: strafe
K DS (Silver) / Supercard CF / 1Gb SanDisk Ultra II CF / FlashMe v7

Cheers FearnleyP. I did manage to work it out eventually though. got frustrated and pressed every botton randomly. I then had to figure out which one selected in the menu. didn't take long. This game works great.

Just found this little trick that allows you to select the single-barrel shotgun after you've picked up the double-barrel shotgun, without reconfiguring one of your action buttons.

This may or may not work differently depending on which weapons you currently have in your inventory.  If it doesn't work for you the way I describe it, a little experimentation should allow you to get it to work.

I currently have:

Chainsaw
Pistol
Shotgun
Double-barrel shotgun
Chaingun

I haven't found a rocket launcher or any plasma weapons yet.

So anyway, I noticed that when I cycle through weapons the order is somewhat awkward.  It goes like this:

Chainsaw
Pistol
Double-barrel shotgun
Chaingun
Chainsaw
Double-barrel shotgun
repeat.

Now, to get to the regular shotgun, first select the second DB Shotgun from that list (the one that comes after the Chainsaw).  Then simply tap Y 3 times quickly, and you should shift to the normal shotgun.

You can also select the second chainsaw (the one just before the DB Shotgun) and tap Y 2 times quickly to select fists.

The odd thing is that the prboom.cfg file has entries for 2 extra wad and deh files, but does not work.  I would guess that dsdoom does not yet read those entries.  That would be the best way to handle PWADS.

Another tip....
You can use dslinux to rename the doom2.wad, tnt.wad or plutonia.wad to doom.wad.  This way you can have all four wads available on your SD. I save all wads on my SD named as *.wab

In dslinux:
cd ../..
ls

Now you should see list of files in the main directory of your SD.
mv doom2.wab doom.wad
poweroff

Note that it can be doom.wab, doom2.wab, tnt.wab or plutonia.wab that is renamed to doom.wad.  Now turn your DS back on and enjoy the IWAD of your choice.

On my DSLite I have not had to patch anything to save games.  Just save your game in Doom and it will be there for you later.

You can also use dslinux to edit the prboom.cfg on the ds. You may also  edit it on your PC in a text editor.  Go to the PRBOOM page and read the docs to see what you can change. You can set autorun, weapon order and more. Some of these options, such as autorun, can not be set from within the game menus.

Other fun.  In game, find the Enemies entry in the setup menu. Go down to "number of helper dogs". Hit select, then hit the B key.  The B key cycles 1,2,3,... so if you want 3 dogs then first enter B,B,select, which will give you 12 which you can't have.  Then hit select again to reenter dogs and hit B,select. Now you should have three! Now restart your game and have 3 helper dogs to sic on imp ass. Note: hitting B outside of a menu entry also cycles 1,2,3,.. since it is your weapon selection. (For some stupid reason prboom does not have a weapon up /weapon down function.)

One last note: it was mentioned in a previous post that to run PWADs i.e. user made maps, you can merge them into an copy of an IWAD i.e. doom.wad or doom2.wad, and then rename the IWAD to doom.wad.  You must first check two things.
1) Is the PWAD prboom compatible? This generally means that the map can not have been designed for other doom ports with more advanced features i.e. EDGE, ZDoom, Risen3D, Doom Legacy, Doomsday. All older PWADs should work.
2) Is the PWAD designed for Doom or Doom2? Check inside the PWAD using a wad editor. If the levels are named E1M1,E1M2,... etc the PWAD must be merged with the doom.wad. If the levels are named MAP01,MAP02 etc then the PWAD must be merged with the doom2.wad
Remeber to back up your original IWAD before merging.

wintex5.0 pro provides a nice gui interface for this, but you must also track down the files vbrun3.dll and threed.vbx and place then in the same directory as wintex. To find the dll, google for dll download to find a site that archives old dlls. I found the threed.vbx just by googling. These are both related to Visual Basic 3. You must also put a copy of the tools deusf.exe and deutex.exe in the wintex directory. These can be found, usually in one zip, on any reputable doom related site.

Enjoy!

When I get around to it, I will post a copy of my PRBOOM.CFG here with optimal control settings.  The defaults are a bit useless for using the game map etc. I will also upload wintex and the required files, if possible.

Hmmm, I can't seem to get this to work. I'm using a SC lite with microSD. Everytime I run it I get a black screen with 'Survived graphics init.' message. Any ideas? I've also tried to patch with SC software that came with the firmware so that dsdoom.nds is converted to dsdoom.nds.dsq. When I try to run that it doesn't load from the SC menu. Is there something I'm missing here?

Never run homebrew software through the Supercard patcher software.  You need to prepend ndsloader, or you can use a utility like "SuperCard Magic Homebrew Patcher" developed by our distinguished member ratx.

Hmm, alright I tried the SCMHP utility and tried to run the .sc.nds file but I'm still getting the same 'Survived graphics init.' error. I'm running the latest firmware for my SC. Any ideas?

Hmm . . . Maybe it doesn't work with SC lite?  I know it works with Supercard CF/SD/miniSD. Can anyone else confirm this?

It works great on my SCLite! I patched it with "patch moomshell for sc" and ran dsdoom.nds. I've been reliving my Doom II days all over again!

jawofglass + bitblt you need to patch it with the moomshell patcher ( fixes FAT homebrew on the SC lites )

bitblt

I guess I should buy a Supercard lite someday. I still provided good advice about patching homebrew in general.
