supercard software vs. supercard lite software

Is it possible to use roms converted with standard supercard software with the new supercard lite? or do you have to convert them seperately?

(Just ordered SClite from kicktrading.ca, they are instock and matched realhotstuff's price)

you have to patch them with the new patcher.  If you use your old roms, they won't save, and the DS roms will be very slow and choppy.

Make sure you patch clean roms.  :)

I though if I could use the SC Lite software/firmware I could get better results on the previous models. I tried using the Lite patcher on the miniSD version but it didn’t work and I’m not a programmer so I can’t alter the current FW version.

However, in thinking I have come to the conclusion that the new Lite version hardware contains upgrades over the previous models. I think the new microSD card PCB is probably using a faster bus allowing data to pass through the GBA slot to DS RAM much faster allowing the use of slower microSD’s. I would love to find a programmer that could modify the SuperCard Lite patcher and firmware for use on the miniSD/SD/CF models.

You came to the conclusion that the supercard lite has better hardware. Why would adapting the software for the lite to work with the other versions make any difference? Do these minor slowdowns bother you so much that you need to spend more time posting about them than actually playing?

If so, you are the biggest fan of Tony Hawk and/or Animal Crossing I have ever come across.

I don't think it has better hardware but rather a better bandwidth between the microSD and the SuperCard PCB. With the older versions of the SuperCard even having a fast 150X miniSD/SD could still get you a tad bit of slowdown in some games. However, with the SuperCard Lite the microSD adapter has a much higher rate of speed so it’s able to read from the microSD much faster and with faster access times as well. This allows the SuperCard PCB to send the data through the GBA slot into the DS RAM much faster then previous versions of the SuperCard.

Now using a regular microSD doesn't garner near as much slowdown as with the miniSD/S versions. It even shows when loading GBA games and also while saving in GBA games as the times are cut in half! It’s comparable to upping the system bus in a computer. This is where the SuperCard Lite is a huge improvement over previous incarnations! The SuperCard Lite is the flash card to beat right now!

Better bandwidth means better hardware lol. That means this software aint gonna work with other model SC.

What does "patch cartridge access" exactly does?

I understand what you mean but I don't think they upgraded the SuperCard part of the hardware but rather the microSD connection to the PCB.

Ok, but you're now clear that modding the new patcher/firmware to work with older supercards is completely useless, right?
