Yup. In Japan, I think they're called "Spirit Leaders", the Asian equivalent of cheerleading. Why the cheerleader difficulty level is the hardest in a game rooted in a Japanese cultural icon, I will never know.

PS: Anyone saw the special ending screen when you beat all 4 difficulties? Was it worth it? Personally, the satisfaction of actually completing it was enough.

EDIT: Ok...just saw the video. Had no idea they actually incorporated girls' cheerleading into the whole scheme of things. And their moves are differently as frantic as the gameplay.
