I've been trying to edit the moonshell settings so as to allow me to be able to change songs when the lid of the ds is closed, but i havent been able to figure out how. I dont seem to understand how the setup.ini file explains things? could I have a step by step guide as to how I could remedy this problem?

To change to the next song when lid is closed, you have to hold L and hit R. To pause the song, you hold R and hit L. THose are the default settings.
