Bought superkey + supercard miniSD combo couple of days ago. everytime i start my ds phat (regular), it goes to GBA mode. to go to DS mode, i have to eject superkey and insert superkey again. what should i do to make superkey start DS mode every startup? or is my superkey defective? Thanks all!

Welcome to scdev!

That is what the superkey does (amongst other things) goes to gba slot. If you want to go to DS slot just eject the superkey. There is nothing defective with it. If you do not want to use the superkey and the ability to to go to either ds or gba slot, you will need to flash your ds. What is the reason to go to the ds slot with the superkey? i can only guess to change settings or pictochat, as you are not playing a ds cartidge with the superkey.

thanks for the quick reply. when i'm in GBA mode, i can only see GBA roms. when i'm in DS mode, i can see both GBA and DS roms.

in GBA mode, only the top screen works. it shows the Gameboy splash screen.

in DS mode, both screens work, it shows the white Nintendo DS splash screen.

is there a setting or key combo i need to press when turning ON the unit to go to DS mode?

turning ON and holding start key goes to DS settings mode which i dont like to go.

Thanks again.

onekelly: he said GBA MODE not "GBA SLOT"...  if he's booting into GBA mode with the superkey inserted, then something's wrong.  He's wanting to boot into DS mode via nopass (superkey in this case)

mario888: do you mean that after booting once (into GBA mode with superkey inserted), you have to turn off the DS, eject superkey, and reinsert it before rebooting?

If so, then something is wrong, because with the superkey inserted, you should boot directly into DS pass mode.

sneef, thanks for the quick reply.

if the unit is off then i turn it on, it goes to GBA mode. just as you understood, yes i have to off DS, eject superkey, reinsert superkey, then on DS then it will go to DS mode. in short, whenever i turnoff my DS, it goes to GBA mode by default even with both superkey and supercard inserted.

i understood your last statement but i want to clarify that with the superkey inserted, it should go to DS mode by default (and not in GBA mode) every startup of my DS unit right?

thanks!

Sounds like a problem with your passthrough device, when its not detected your DS is just booting into GBA mode.  I had a Max Media Launcher and used to get the same problem occasionally.

If you keep the superkey pressed in while it is booting do you get into DS mode then? This used to fix my Max Media Launcher problem, although the permanent fix was to flashme....

thanks dippyx for your reply.

i guess i got a defective superkey. will try to return/exchange it later.  the store i bought has both superkey and passcard.  if they have no more superkey, is it ok for me to get the passcard instead?  i read somewhere here both superkey and passcard have the same board/chip inside and also the only noticeable difference is the splash screen (my superkey doesnt have boot splash screen).  anybody can give me advice why i shouldn't settle for passcard?

thanks!

yes superkey and passcard3 are the exact same device excpet for a different colored dot inside. :P
