If you are talking about DS Firmware, Im pretty sure it's at the point where it doesn't need to be updated anymore, but I could be wrong. As For Supercard Firmware they usually don't update it until a rom or roms aren't/ won't patch right or won't patch at all or when game don't work when they should.  So It could be a while.

I was talking about SC's firmware. It's too bad, because I would like to see some stuff in :

- new on-screen font
- show time/date
- new version of NES and SMS emulators
- bypass firmware and run DS' (PictoChat, etc.)

... I'm sure people on the forum would like some other stuff, too.

If flashme is installed, you can bypass the SC by holding "select" while power on. The font thing is trivial. And as for the emulators, I vote all of them be removed and the space be replaced with Moonshell. Emulators get updated in many cases more often than the firmware, and I would just rather compile my own emulators personally.

What is really *needed* is FAT32 support....so eventual larger cards (larger than 4GB) can be supported on the device.

I think the SC is great as a minimalist interface but I think date and time as well as a way to bypass the firmware would be very useful

if they had a "perfect" emulator for gba/gbc/(s)nes roms i wouldnt mind (since i cant get anything but gba to work as of yet -_-;

as for eyecandy:

-font's not that bad i dont care that much but a few custom ones that are changeable would be nice

-custom background (or something that i can have a picture instead of the supercard symbol)

-game icons <- and if it supports icons then being able to use the touchscreen to choose games in like a icon tile mode would be cool.

I wish they'd remove the numbers next to the files - can't really see the point in them being there.
Would be good if they had an option to hide file extensions too...

And alphabeticalize automaticallly >_>

FifthE1ement

The problem with files not be alphabetized is that the file system with FAT goes by modified date rather than alphabetical order.

I know everyone wants FAT32 but who knows what problems it might cause? Games on the M3 sometimes run slower with FAT32 rather than FAT and speed issues might arise as well as other unknowns.

i just wanna say FifthE1ement is a pimp and homebrewcast was boring with out him

it doesnt seem like the SC needs an amazing menu...its not like you just sit there and look at the menu (or do you?!!?) :P

easily remedied with fatsort.

If windows explorer can do the rocket science involved in puting A's before Z's, so can my NDS.......

on the same account out-of-the-box windows does not alphabetize the start menu once new items get installed... :p
i am just being difficult.
i would like to see things being alphabetized be it via fat32 or something else.
and an update to the dated interface that makes it feel kinda cheap.

Mr. Picklesworth

I agree (yep, my first post is this pointless plea), the interface needs a massive improvement.

It feels too... GBA-ish.
To start, there is no button press repeat. That makes it really hard to navigate the menus, as though it isn't bad enough already...

Need Fat32 support, badly.

The firmware should use the top and bottom screens instead of just wasting the bottom one to print a logo. Top screen can display date/time/file info, bottom one can display menus. The rounded bubble things look awful, by the way :P

Of course, all of this would be 100% forgiven and I would never request a firmware feature again (except Fat32 support) if there was an autoload option added so I could just get it to boot Moonshell when it starts up.
Of course, then the Back To Firmware program would need some kind of fix so it doesn't just go back to the firmware then autoload Moonshell, but something may be doable.

Something like the M3 firmware would be ideal, but I guess that's quite a long shot...

They may as well yank the S(NES) emulators, since there are perfectly good standalone ones.

What would be perfect is if they just went ahead and released the SC firmware source code so a nice and featureful one could be created by the community.

GodMedia

Who really cares about what the firmware looks like? The thing does the job, I can play my games, that's all that it needs to do.

We are picky consumers, we will always want more than what we have!
