Hey guys, i'm having trouble connecting to any homebrew app wanting to use the internet. But any normal game (Mario Kart, Tetris etc) all connect and play online just fine.  :?  These are real versions I mean, not roms, i've set it all up on DS through their Wifi settings and like I said they play online perfectly.

I've got a DS Lite, Supercard Lite, Sandisk micro sd card, Belkin G wireless router.... but can't connect to Tetris Attack, Explosive Gas or even the online bits of DSOrganiser.

Any suggestions or guides I can read? I can't figure out how to open the port 9999 for my DS to use, router stuff is very confusing to me lol. But this is only needed when hosting a game right? I should be able to connect to the other stuff without doing this? Or do I need to do it for online homebrew full stop?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

an "easy" way to combat this would be to have a single IP on your router as a DMZ. For example, on my router I have *.*.1.9 as the DMZ (left the first two starred for posting purposes only). Basically what this does is open up every port strictly for that IP address, so its as if there is no router connected.

Be warned though, its a major security risk so be sure not to piss anyone off if you do that :)

Then, go into your DS wifi connection settings and change it from "automatically obtain" to whatever you set the IP address to. Its a little bit more work, but its worth it in the end as theres no need to mess with setting specific ports open

Hmm I found a option in my router 'Protected Mode', that was on... I turn it off and apps connect now, sounds like a internal firewall or something.... wonder if having that off though opens me up to trouble.  :(

I THINK its connecting now anyway, it gets further than it use too - but it says there are no Explosive Gas servers up, does that just mean no one is playing?

I downloaded a game through DSOrganiser but still couldn't connect to the IRC thing.

Hmm.

Try connecting on something like WifiChat or BeUP. If those connect, then you're fine. I think when it says the message you're getting with EG, it just means no one is playing. Unfortunately I dont have any first hand experience with it, so maybe someone with more knowledge would be able to answer it more accurately.
