I've noticed when I don't unrar a file and follow the compatibility chart on WIKI by Scorpio it always works on the Supercard. I encounter no problems with compatibility issues. The problem occurs when I actually unrar or unzip the file in an attempt to rename it to a more familiar name. Even when I just  unrar the file and leave the name the same the game doesn't seem to work. How can I rename the file without screwing it up?

That's very strange.  I only use uncompressed roms with the patcher software, and it shouldn't matter what the name is.  Honestly I have no clue what the problem is here, sorry.

gba games are unaffected when it comes to ds games theirs problems. I changed both the sav file and the original game file leaving .nds.dsq and .nds.sav respectively. I've even tried renaming before the patch so it'll be easier but I get the same results. They both came from ind and have MSinfo doc type of files maybe thats part of the problem. Can someone try Advance Wars DOR and Tetris DS renaming it to those names.

I'm a bit confused on what you said, so I apologize if you already said this.  So when you leave it in zip/rar format and run it through the patcher, the output *.nds.dsq and *.sav files work correctly, right?  But then when you rename those already-patched *.nds.dsq and *.sav files, they don't work?  That is very, very odd.  Try scanning your card for corruption, or as a last resort try reformatting your card (make sure you backup your data first).

Quick question:  is the Supercard patcher set to output directly to your media card?  If so, that could be the problem.  Always output to your hard drive first and then manually copy the patched files over to the card.

from experience ... sometimes they are packed or zipped with something other than winzip... maby winrar or other archiver that outputs to zip had a load of roms with this same issue and also can cause an issue with offline list being able to rename them too :(

solution was to unzip/unpack and repack with WINZIP and that usually fixes the issue both with patcher and with offline list being able to use the zipped files  :)

additional some roms come double packed/zipped they need to be unzipped first and then unrarred as they often come in split archived files usually in .rar format files will be named thus  ..

game.rar
game.00
game.01
game.02
game.03

etc you then need to unpack with winrar/7zip or other archive unpacker to give a resulting folder/file which will be your needed .nds file :)

Sorry for the confusion, thats exactly what I'm saying. To answer your question I never output to my media card directly, just more chances for something to happen. I'll try reformatting card hopefully it solves everything. I'll post the results.

Thanks Dan, after reformatting everything seems to work.

Must have been an error in the FAT filesystem then.  I couldn't think of any other reason for a simple rename to break the game entirely.  Glad you got it working.
