Gameboy as MP3 player?

Yeah, I'm not gonna spend money on an Mp3 player now!

Never, the crappy sound quality hurts my delicate ears!

I finally got the headphone adapter in the mail. I am actually quite surprised at the overall sound quality of .gbs files. The lows seems to translate along with the highs fairly evenly. I mean we're not talking Ipod quality or anything but it is definalty passable. There is noticeable noise during the quiet parts but then again we are compresssing an already comressed MP3 so that stands to reason.
On the other hand I was a little disapointed in the GBA's actual sound though. I guess I was expecting some 3d sound in games (snes style), even just a bit, but it seems that the Game boy is only capable of handling stereo audio files from what I've heard so far.
Oh well, I think I'll be springing for another CF now so i can hold some mp3's for travel.

You make the poll, but don't vote?

Yeah, it's not the greatest (same with the video quality of .gbm files), but it'll do, as you say, "in a pinch".

the only lame part I can see is that the shoulder buttons switch between tracks whch means you can't really put it in your pocket and go.

That's pretty dumb.  It should at least have a hold mode mapped to the START button or something.

Guess what?  It does have a "Hold" mode.  You know which button it's mapped to?  The START button.

:D nice one guys. That just made this a whole lot more useful to me all of a sudden. I guess I should learn to read :o
It's funny how the "lock" doesn't affect any other buttons. Now hopefully the CF card doesn't snap in half while it's in there, eh.

the gba 8 bits stereo sound is not enough for me (too much distortion)
It's perfect for games but for music I got something like "golden ears", it's more a malediction than anything but... I  can't help it (and don't talk about "128kbps mp3 sound good" to me or I'll kill you with your own shoes   )
