Ok, I've been neglecting my PS3 (60GB, backwards compatible)  for a long time and now I think it's getting revenge. Ok, I finally decide to buy a game. Killzone 2, got it for a nice price. Anyway, I pop it in and nothing happens. Eject, reinsert....still nothing. DVDs still work but my Bluray movies and this game doesn't work. Haven't tested PS2 game because I sold them all off so I don't know if they still work or not. I searched around and many people had a similar problem with the drive stop working. Before I get paranoid and run out to get a lens replacement, I was wondering if I could use a lens cleaner of sorts to maybe fix it? Any recommendations??  :-\

Do any other games work?  PS2?  I am not an expert, but I think that if the movies work the games should.  Check for a small crack near the hole in the center of the disc.  When we first got our PS3 my sons GTA4 had a small crack their, it was barely noticeable, but the game did not work.  We exchange the game and it worked perfect.  I read on a forum somewhere that the blueray PS3 games crack their easy.  We started using paper sleeves for the games with no more cracking problems.  Good luck!

Silly question do you have auto start turned off!?

Have you tried manually starting the game!? ..ie choose the game menu and launch it from the dvd icon there :)

have you updated recently to 2.70? that could be worth a try too ...

other than this theres a hidden restore menu in the options ...maby a good idea to backup your save games etc to a removable device first before proceeding with a restore though  :)

Ok update on this ... mate rang me earlier to go help him sort his other mates PS3 out SAME ISSUE! .... solution was to backup all save games and content to a removable drive  (note drive has to be FAT or FAT32 formatted NTFS will not be recognised at all!)

once backed up follow the guide above in the video and choose option (5 RESTORE PS3 SYSTEM)

this will cleanse the system and restore it to factory settings WARNING!!!! IT WILL REMOVE ALL INSTALLED CONTENT AND SAVES!

You will need your USB cable and connected to your Joypad to hand once it resets to continue the restore process once its done completely it will be like a brand new shop fresh PS3 and all should be well again :)

then just restore your saves etc back to the console and all should be well again!

Lol been a lil busy with work lately and haven't tried. But I am going to try it as soon as I get home today and let ya know how it turns out. Hopefully it goes well :) I'll report back a little later today  8)

check your PM mate with a bit more advise!

for the benefit of the rest of this thread ..... This is NOT a perfect solution using the RESTORE Functions!!!..... The PS3 I helped restore started to the same issues a few hours later and had to be exchanged Via a call to Sony customer services/technical support! :(

But all is well now with the replacement :)

Ok, I tried everything including the restore and it didn't work :( Going to contact Sony support to see if I can get it swapped for free but the warranty is out. If that doesn't work then I'll just throw in a replacement laser myself.

oh well ... at least if you backed up before you tried the restore you will still have your backups for a new one ;)
