hey im buying my cousins 360 off of him because he got the 3 rrod (which i know how to fix) but hes keeping his harddrive so he has his saves for when he gets his elite, so i was wondering even anyone knows where i can get a harddrive for cheap? or if i can use an external usb hard drive or possibly a usb flashdrive for saves? (though i really doubt it)

do i really need the harddrive for anything besides achievements/saves? can i just use a memory card instead?

Well, if you are only going to use it for saves then a memory card should be enough. But, if you plan on doing anything else such as downloading arcade games, demos, DLC, videos......whatever.....get the hard drive. As a matter of fact, just get a harddrive for it anyway. The old 20gig hdds are going for fairly cheap right now.

As 754boy said, go for the hard drive, you'll need it if you want to download the new xbox experience (or a 512mb memory unit, but the hard drive is more convenient)

Mine just came in, and they are 100% like new.  I really only needed the controller, so I'm going to Ebay the hard drive...

Someone could pick up several sets and Ebay the controller and drives separately and make some $$$...
