OK My friend just bought the Mario Kart DS Bundle and wants to get a supercard. I have a PassMe but I'm guessing he will need a PassMe2. So the question is "how do I tell if he needs a PassMe2?" If he does need one where is the cheapest place to get it? I've heard of people saying it cost them $15 but I can only find it on Natriums page for $28 inc Delivery

Yes he'll need the passme 2. It's simple to tell in this case because the mario kart bundle will have the newer DSes.

In general if you buy a new DS after august/september you're guaranteed to have a new style DS. Before then you may have a new firmware, but most likely you don't

Sadly, there is no external way to tell. Everyone thought serial numbers would work, but with the amount of nintendo refurbished DSes now available that doesn't seem to mean much anymore.

You can reflash a passme (or superpass) into a passme2.
Here is a quick how to:
-Go to http://www.natrium42.com/blog/?p=35 to see some basic info on Passme2
-Get a JTAG or make one http://natrium42.com/projects/jtag.html get the software too.
-For superpass users: http://users.pandora.be/ranzigen/Superpass_JTAG.jpg
http://www.wendylady.eclipse.co.uk/SUPERPASS.jpg bigger one :)
-For passkey users: http://www.romcenter.com/photos/nds/keyjtag2.jpg
-get the jed and SRAM for your DS game: http://www.ndshb.com/cgi-bin/cfiles/cfiles.cgi?0,0,0,0,9
-Run the software
-Right click the CPLD and erase the write protection.
-Make sure you have enought batteries in your JTAG so there won't be any errors.
-Program the Jed file.
DONE! you have now a passme2 :)

I didn't go into detail because it's not the topic, and I've never done this, just gathered the info from several sites. If someone has time, please write a more in detail tutorial.
I hope that this helps.
