Quote from: "masterX"so do you have to use the QPC method
i thought direct file system support lets you
use the save normally?

it saves on Cf directly

I probably did it all wrong, as I always do.
I know about QPC( I also know it has never fixed any of the slowdowns in GBA games...) and that works i.e it keeps my Scumm config.

What won't keep my Scumm config, though, is this sav file I've put there assuming it was the same process than for a Nes or GB game.
I save to SD, turn the DS off for 10 secs, then back on, and all is gone.
Btw, I only just thought about it but...is QPC the only method for saving GG games ? Cause as far as I know, there is no going back to menu with those. I'm guessing QPC would work...I'll give it a try.

Just curious. There are 2 files of this kind in the Supercard dir. Nesfilename.sav and save.sav.
Do those 2 differ in any way? Which one would it be best to use ?

Dudu, could you explain how you got Loom to work ?
I'm still confused about the audio...

but it's not mp3...  per example for samnmax:

Floppy version, music works and sounds works...
MONSTER.SOU    2Mo
SAMNMAX.SM0    9Ko
SAMNMAX.SM1  13Mo

CD version, music works but no sounds....
MONSTER.SOG   64Mo
SAMNMAX.000      9Ko
SAMNMAX.001    13Mo

maybe SCUMM can't play sounds with CD version.....? file too big...?

.SOG is the compresseg format i was talking about.. this file must be .SOU!!!!

games with mp3 are like monkey islando.. where the music are CD-tracks

Yoko99

When it comes to CD games, or talkies, if you prefer(althou not all CD games are talkie, obviously), there are three types :

The "Loom" type, it has 1 track with all the speech and music in it
The "Monkey Island "type, it has several music tracks.
The "Indiana Jones" type, where all the audio is stored in a SOU file, like for Day of the tentacle or Sam & Max

For saving disk space purposes, those SOU files can be converted to FLAC, Ogg, or Mp3 (respectively SOC, SOG, and SO3) and then read by ScummVM.
I don't know if there's a way to convert these files back to SOU, but that could help you guys, I guess...look into the ScummVM tools package readme

I would be pleasantly surprised to learn that the DS port reads them too.

So, about Loom, which has been giving me weird results, I will ask agentq, but I'd just like to point out that I extracted the 20 or so audio tracks from the monkey Island CD to the EXACT format that the scummvmds readme says, using the very program it suggests to use.
But I'm sorry to announce this is apparently not enough, it fails to open all the tracks, which are there, and without a doubt, in the right format.
and I really wonder what's up with that, seeing as how I converted those tracks the exact same way I did for the Loom track.
Loom may not be playing at the right places, but at least, it plays something, I can hear some of the games dialogue lines, etc...

Note that I'm using SC SD so I'm still building archives(well over 30 mbs, but that did'nt seem to change anything...) and not playing directly from game files, dunno if that would make a difference in the reading of the games audio, but I doubt it.
And I only have a 128 Mbs SD card for now, so I have'nt tested those "type3" games(files size too big, and since I did'nt think the DS port would read any compressed SOU file, I never bothered trying...

I will try to see if I can't catch agentq and ask him all about it

PS: btw, if you guys want those uncompressed SOU files, eventually, I ccould supply them

Same question here.

Scummvm DS works fine and save on SC miniSD (thanks to the RTS battery ?).
Tested with DOTT.

But I can't figure out where to put the MONSTER.SOU file in order to get other audio than MIDI.
I tried zipped with the .nds file, or in the same folder, or in the SD root and still no sound.
I'm running out of ideas and I can't find any precise answer to this matter on forums.
(Guys are often saying "Yay I got it to work !" and vanishes without any explanation ^^; how frustrating )

Can someone help pleeease ? é0è>

Okaaay.
I get it.
And I was waaay out of line.

As agentq said on gbadev :

you need to take the .ds.gba file from the archive, rename it to .nds, and then run it on your Supercard. Ignore all the zip file stuff.

You should then be able to pick files from directories on your CF.

If you use the zip file method (which is meant for cards that are not directly supported by ScummVM DS), it will use the game in the zip and ignore any present on the CF.

I've simply moved files from CD folders (including .SOU) to my CF with scumm.nds (renamed).
And all works great. Amazing of simplicity.

But I understand that for the SCSD and the .zip method file (unless you can't save) you can't have sound because .zip file will go over 30 Mo, and won't work.

So now I'm trying to convert .sou to .mp3 using scummvm tools.
But I can't figure out how it works.
I run what it seems to be the exact command :
D:\compress_scumm_sou.exe <--mp3> D:\monster.sou

It's saying it can't find file.

Can anyone help ?

Are you reall using < and > in your command? I don't think you use them.
Also the destination file should be SO3 extension. Don't forget; you need lame encoder.

I complete DOTT.
It was great. DS is great to revive these point-n-click adventure games.

Now, after viewing Pirates of the Carrib' 2 -and about Ron Gilbert attacking the movie makers- I'm planning on playing the Monkey 1&2 games.

Files needed to play The Secret of Monkey Island are MONKEY1.000 and MONKEY1.001.
Here comes the sound problem again.
I managed to find .mp3 files of the musics of MI1, and had hard time converting them into ima-adpcm 4-bit mono .wav files for scummvmDS to play them.
I used GoldWave 5.13 to do that.
Works like a charm now.

Files needed to play Monkey Island 2 are MONKEY2.000 and MONKEY2.001.
But I seem to have midi sounds.
Does anyone know if audio files exists for MI2 the same way that MI1, and if I can an use the same method to have better sound ?
Thanks !
