Are the .sav files compatible with VisualBoy Advance?

Are the .sav files compatible with VisualBoy Advance? And vice versa?  Both for the Real time save (.sav) and Saves (.sci)?

I don't see a reason they wouldn't be, except that you might need to trim a bunch of zeroes from the end to bring it down to the actual size, if VBA doesn't support the saves as they are.

Firmware versioning: Get a Passcard 3, a SuperKey, or a slot-1 flashkit. Then it doesn't matter which firmware you have.

It does... and they work.

You could have done a search, I answered this same question just a week or two ago.

They work just fine. I started my Zelda Minish Cap in VBA and finished it using my SC  8)

I haven't tried starting for VBA to supercard.  But when I tried to use the save on Supercard to VBA it says corrupt save file.
