CF problems

Ok, so i got a supercard recently, and used it with my sandisk Ultra II 1gb card.  it worked great.

but i use that card for my digital camera, so i ordered another card - a kingston 512.

got that yesterday, and the SC refuses to see it; it just gives me a "could not find CF' error.  swap the sandisk back in, and boom, it works again.

tried formatting the kingston 3 different ways, all as FAT - no luck.
the kingston reads fine in my USB CF reader and in my camera, so i know the card works on it's own.  verified reading/writing and everything.

so i'm stumped.  any ideas here guys?

These CF compatibility problems are getting out of control.   :x

Funny thing is, I use a Kingston 256MB card and it works great.

We should make a list of cf that are compatible with supercard.  The list should consist of the brand, the size, and the type.

It would be great if everyone in this board provide information about their cf.

Are you also using a DS with your Supercard?  If so, do you have access to a GBA/GBA SP to verify the CF works on them?

I think it's about time to start badgering Romman for info.

I've only got access to my GBA (with afterburner).

I've got a buddy with a SP, but i don't know when I'd get a chance to try it on his system.

also, i tried formating the card again on another PC - still no luck.
I'm wondering if i should try sending it back and see if the replacement works.....

So you are having these problems on your original GBA?

Have you tried upgrading your firmaware to v 1.43 (if it isn't v1.43), or downgrading it  to v1.41 (if it is v1.43)?

Have you checked the pins in the Supercard (both slots)?  Though, if one card works, I highly doubt they're damaged.  Is the Kingston noticeably damaged at all?

yeah, I've already tried both firmwares (using the sandisk to do it) and I have also looked at the pins, and they all look fine.

the kingston CF is brand new, and looks like it too.  bought from buy.com and cut open the packaing last night myself.

tried the card with roms on it, without anything, with the firmware on it, formating it in my camera, etc.  all without any luck.

Have you checked the partition layout using something like 7tools Partition Manager?

Get the 2004 demo (the 2005 demo is not functional) and check.  One card I used had a 'dodgy' partition.

I was getting 'Could not find CF card' errors when I first started using my Supercard, this was due to a poorly set up CompactFlash card. I was using a Mac with newfs_msdos, which supposedly created a legit filesystem but the Supercard wasn't happy with it.

Anyway, 7tools.. Google it.  Worth a shot.

You could also try repairing the MBR (Master Boot Record) of the CF.  You'll need a bootdisk (either your WinXP install disc, or a bootdisk-formatted floppy from http://www.bootdisk.com/).

I'm honestly not sure if you can use the FIXMBR command for anything but the drive your OS is on, though.  You could always try "help FIXMBR", or "FIXMBR /?" to see if it does.  Or you can try Googling it to get some more info.

So perhaps it's not my supercard that's errorus after all...  I've got

no luck with the 7tools.  tried  formatting it every way i could think of, still a no-go.

it's gotta be the card.  maybe i can find someone locally with a similar card and willing to trade....

I think there is something "special"    with Kingston CF, my 128M card doesn't work, too...The same probs- "could not find CF'". All works excellent with my Canon camera, card is brand new. In my opinion Kingston is too smart right now, they think, that folks (us, for ex.    ) will buy CF's even if they "cut" a little bit inside...Price is good, but if doesn't work- not as good, as should to be.
