when i patch a clean nds rom, I get  .dsq and .sav files.

I ran the rom, which was Ridge Racer and won a few races, saving a game file.  If I delete Ridge Racer from my sd card, but copy the .sav file to another folder on my computer, can I put it back on in the future and still have my game file?

Thanks.  I really don't want to lose the file, nor the Nintendogs sav file.  I just have limited room and want to change games.
