you should ask him about that and ask him about changing the origional background to a different color or picture.

My idea is:
when we save a game (with real time save), the firmware saves the screen of the game, and when we back to menu, the firmware displays it as background of the menu, so we heave a preview of the game when selecting it....
so sorry my bad engrish :(

My supercard hasnt arrived yet so I dont even know what moonshell looks like, but it would be very cool if there was a my games menu and a little boxart picture showed up for each game you had on your sd/cf card. If anyone has a modded xbox with xbmc they would know how cool it looks. Does anyone know if it will be possible to have something like that on the ds?

To have that boxart idea working, you'd have to integrade JPEG (or GIF, whatever is decided) rendering into the SC firmware, and then rewrite the SC management software that you run on your PC to download the boxart off of the net (or have it included in the installer).  Clicking the "Out" button would then involve generating the modified NDS rom, the SAV file, and a picture file of the boxart.  The software that runs on your actual NDS from the SC would read these files accordingly.

Many emulators, like NesterDC SE for Dreamcast, already do this for those of you who haven't seen it before.

Edit:  Not that this is making progress or anything, but as far as boxart on the PC goes, I found this: http://www.retrocovers.com/advanscene/phpbb2/viewforum.php?f=10.

what i'm wondering about is if games can be started when an file has already been loaded from the cf card.
I think it is possible cause restart can be used.
probably it's possible in a much simpeler way but this is just a proof of concept type thingy...

the firmware can be rewritten to start shell.nds at startup

shell.nds is moonshell firmware combo and when you want to start a game it saves to a file on the cf card.
then the restart technology is used and the firmware reads the file selects the correct game and start it.

This only uses software already available so I see no problem with this method.

recap:

so the firmware starts shell.nds at startup when shell.txt(or something) is empty.
if a shell.txt is not empty it reads what's in it whipes the file and start that game.

and then you have the shell.nds which just writes the shell.txt file when a .dsq is selected and restarts.

what do you think about this?

Come on guys we cant let the M3 people beat us.  Their has to be somehow we can fit it in the firmware.  Mabey we can have moonshell go back to the supercard when you select a DSQ file or something.

Cyprien Walker

we dont neet it to put it on the firmware we can put it on the cf and make windows hide this file but the supercard can see the file and will load up when you boot the supercard but you wont be able to see the file in the file system so if romman could make hist own version of moonshell like the m3 guys did we could do it that way just make a special file for the supercards that loads up automaticly. so i wont cost any firmeware space only you would have to edit the firmware so it would be able to load the file.

The problem is, Moonshell doesn't support how the supercard reads programs... so if it automatically booted to moonshell, it'd be impossible to play DS roms.

rocky

Yea I know but isnt their a way we can get it to go back to the supercard menu to load the rom once you select it?

Blight

personally as the supercard can completly reset back to the menu I think it's more than possible to make moonshell run dsq.

O RLY?

The latest version I've tried (0.992test4-dpgenc2) was (usually) able to run .nds files from my Supercard SD. I successfully ran wifilibtest and DSOrganize. It still doesn't recognize .dsq (and I'd assume .dsi as well) but it's a start.

Firmware versioning: Get a Passcard 3, a SuperKey, or a slot-1 flashkit. Then it doesn't matter which firmware you have.

I'm going to be using 2 sd cards anway, one only being for media and homebrew, so I wouldn't need to run dsqs on it, so a boot.nds file would be nice for me :). I wonder if it's also possible to make an nds file that can be tacked on to the begining of a dsq file for launching. Like combine bootdsq.bin+ game.dsq to get game.dsq and then it could just be renamed to game.nds. Then again, Romman could do alot of this, but it would require him to do something.

rocky

Isnt their a way to get some kind of autorun file on the card to make it boot that?
