CF - any brands to avoid?

Hi
As the heading says, are there any brands to avoid or do they all work? I'm off to China next month so perhaps the opportunity of getting some 'cheap' CF cards may present itself. Presumably even buying branded cards in China will be risky from the counterfieting angle, though if all brands work, then it shouldn't be too risky.  Can you guys think of any other must have electrical items that I should get?????

I personally would not go the cheap route. I would imagine that many cheap-o cards can possibly damage the SC, or perhaps they can easily get damaged themselves. I have had a few cheapy cards like this, and believe me, for the money you think you save initially it really is not worth it. I personally only go for name brands such as PNY, Kodak Lexar, Sandisk, Kingston and the like.

thanks zektor - my only 'worry' if I went for a brand name as you suggest, would be how to tell the real McCoy, as I believe it is pirate paradise in China. I guess I could buy the most expensive card & hope that it is real, but then that may negate the financial gain.  I see on ebay loads of incredibly cheap brand CF cards , but the postage is obscene. I was hoping to miss out the postman as I'll be there.  Any other electricals etc worth considering???

You will not find memory for as cheap as ebay without the postage. The postage is artificially inflated to include profit for most overseas sellers.

You can get cf cards for 0.0.1p plus 45 quid p&p. So, of course, you will not be able to buy cf for a penny. Cheaper yes, but you probably wont get the massive bargain you are looking for.

good luck

If you find something cheap I would go ahead and get it.

I have bought a few electronic items from china and have had no problems with one exception.  That was an adapter for the old GBA to hook it up to a TV.  It worked well for 3 months and slowly the picture got worse and worse til it finally died.

Everything else has been good and I have saved alot of money.

Remember the Supercard is chinese made and works good.  I don't think that a chinese memory card will be any different.  Good Luck.
