Why do GBA games load so slow compared to NDS roms?

ahamay

Very simple:

DS games run from your CF/SD card directly.
GBA Games run from the memory of the Supercard (32MB) which isn't the fastest. Some games use certain functions which the supercard cannot handle correct will cause the games to slowdown. Also patching the roms with reset function can/will slowdown games. TIP: try the game without reset and use the Quick Power up cheat !

Frankly I find it crappy for GBA games, because my favourites don't run very good : Mario land, Yoshi's Island.

Because DS games are designed to be loaded into ram and only stream bits of it off the DS card.

GBA games on the other hand has much smaller ram. As such the games are designed to be constantly streamed from the cartridge. GBA carts transfer a helluva lot faster then DS carts, and the supercard is very limited on transfer speeds from SD and CF.
