OK, ive read up on Moonshell but its all going over my head....no comprendo!!
Could one of you kindly fellows care to clarify a few things...
in no particular order...based on readings on this site..

is the size of the memory card determining the size of the movie\cartoon that can be watched??
My tv has a SD slot that i have never bothered with....if i recorded , say, The Simpsons on the SD, can i then transfer this across(after the spftware thingy has been performed)to the DS??
Also, the tv allows me to choose resolution settings....should i be choosing the finest quality res(which is also the largest file size)??
Are full length 100 minute movies playable??Whats this i read re. the 6 minute stop\start issues??

As you can perhaps see, as my subject heading requests,i am in need of a Dummies Guide....please help!!

im a dummy dumb, here is my very easy guide to watch DivX on your DS(see my signature to know with witch DS i tested ok)

download moonshell 0.9 & 0.99

first unzip moonshell packages in separate folders

1- get the player working
go in 0.99 version folder and execute "CreateNDSROM_for_SuperCard.bat"
then copy "_BOOT_MP_SC.nds" on your card

2- encode a video
go in 0.9 version folder (0.99 encoder seems have problems with audio) and execute "dpgenc.exe"
select the movie you want convert (work with divx but must have codec installed, sometimes it don't work, so try another divx :p) don't change default options, but if you want you can change volume to the max...
click on green ok button, then wait encoding
copy the file generated on your card (256M card can be short , 512M card is enough)

3- play the movie
run your DS with your SC then execute "_BOOT_MP_SC.nds"  , run the movie and enjoy , no bugs no freez and very acceptable quality.




if it's possible to do a media player, why nintendo teams don't do a included official player in the DS... concurencing the PSP.... too late now....

Merci spliff for yr help....but my 0.9 has NO exe. folders to open\execute!!
I dont see any'createNDSROM" files within o.9 or o.991..only a BOOT_MP.NDS(and lots of imfs.files..)..this i put onto the SD and ran in SC...2 black screens...
I shall endeavour to download it again, hoping to find the .BAT file you speak about.....
I have looked high and low...no tutorials anywhere!!

I think the application does this all automatically now.
e.g. just run setup.exe in the Moonbase folder and have it target your SD card drive (I THINK...) and then just hit the setup button in the program. (I believe the Supercard option is already checked when you run setup)

MY question is, once this is done, will it run straight or do I still have to patch the DS file?

If you don't have your flashdrive inserted you can target any harddrive and then just copy the "_BOOT_MP_SC.nds" (or rename it to something nice). No need to patch it.
