MP3 size/bitrate/quality for moonshell

In my colection of mp3's, I have noticed big gapes between the sizes of my songs. I know they are all different bitrate, some 5 mins. songs are 2MB's and other 7MB's. I know there is a noticable difference of quality between 56kbp/s and 192kbp/s. But I want to find the "perfect medium" between size and quality so I can squish some more songs on my SD card while still sounding decent.

What's the best sounding (mp3s) bitrate to use in moonshell while being small enough to not take up that much room?

Also is there a window app out there that can batch convert mp3's to different size and also regulate the volumes at the same time, so I could run a couple of songs on there before sending them to my SD.

I've ask for picture converting software on here in the past and got great suggestions, since then I've used IfranView to shrink my pics for moonshell and I love it. It does the job right. I prepare my nds, gba, pics, movies prior to sending them on the SD now it only makes sense to do my mp3's too lol. Thanks.

I think 128kbps is pretty standard, if you want you could try 92 or whatever it is and it might not sound so bad. I think windows media player has a converter for it but im not sure that might just be ripping off CD. I always use 128 on my songs and I think they sound great.

CDex
or
dbpoweramp

dl CDex here: http://gnuwin.epfl.ch/apps/cdex/en/install/cdex_151.exe
dl dbpoweramp here: http://dbpoweramp.com/bin/dMC-r10.exe

btw cdex have ogg encoder built in, but dbpoweramp don't have built in ogg codec
u can dl codec here: http://www.dbpoweramp.com/codec-central.htm

an also why i give u version 10 instead new version
coz after version 10 dbpoweramp is not free anymore..

if you need tutorial for both software reply here (but it so simple, i know u can do it)

kraken

MP3 purists typically use 192 or variable bit rate for MP3.  I use winamp with the LAME MP3 out plugin to make my MP3s.  Its as easy as playing a file in winamp, and its 100x faster.

OGG may be smaller and open source, but MP3 is more compatible so im sticking to that.  For now.

for good listeable MP3's set it to a minimum of 96kbps (128 recommended)

for good listening with very low use of space. get your files to mono mp3. so then it would be 56kbps mono sound. to get the same quality as 128kbps in stereo. So if you don't mind getting a mono file ,then this is a great way to save space.
