mister x

read an article today which said its possible to play on line using a dial up connection rather than a broadband(highspeed)connection...
Can anyone confirm this to be true??
He said theres hardly any lag time at all....
thanks :)

well sure . . . you could turn on Internet sharing (even with AOL) and use a DS compatible pci/usb wireless card, or a second NIC connected to a wireless router.  Wouldn't recommend it though.

mister x

no...no tricks, just a 56K and a router\usb wireless connection...
thanks for yr prompt answers though...

bitblt

i guess i don't understand . . . do you mean nintendo will have dial up service?

mister x

OK,  sorry, let me clarify...
on the nintendo Wifi site it states that highspeed connection(DSL or cable) is neccessary  in order to compete in say, MKDS online...
The article in question, to be found at http://www.oldsoftware4.worldfreeweb.com/other/wifi/dialupwifi.html

says that a simple 56K modem is sufficient, along with the obvious Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector  or other...

I dont have the USB connector nor a router so i cant try it out...what i do have is the miserable old 56K dial up connection so i was wondering if anyone else had read this and had been in a position to give it a go....

If its worth it i shall consider buying one or the other ....thats why i was asking....

That article describes exactly what I was saying in my first post.  Internet (Connection) sharing allows your dial-up connection to be shared with the DS.  Then you need a wireless pci/usb/router for your DS to connect to.  I'm sure it can work, but not great.

I've heard that in games with a lot of information transmitting (like Mario Kart) dialup users cause a lot of lag for everyone else.

Unless you're only going to add other dialup users to your friends list, or you don't mind getting dropped from races a lot, don't bother.
Manually signing your posts is dumb.

Firmware versioning: Get a Passcard 3, a SuperKey, or a slot-1 flashkit. Then it doesn't matter which firmware you have.

mister x

thanks for yr efforts there m2pt...not interested in heresay though...which is what you have put forward....
as for yr snide comment..
"Unless you're only going to add other dialup users to your friends list, or you don't mind getting dropped from races a lot, don't bother."....really mate, keep yr unhelpful comments to your self....or, heed your own advice, and dont "bother" offering yr advice in my threads....invariably your advice(as above) is useless anyway....!!
In fact yr avatar is probably yr best work........hahaha!!

Koji

It's not heresay... I've seen it in action.

It'll work, just realize you are going to have a poor gaming experience one way or the other.

First of all, I wasn't trying to make snide comments; these things I've "heard" were from dialup users who tried it.

Secondly, work on your spelling, capitalization and grammar. Judging by your post which I've quoted here, you are, or have the intelligence of, a 6-year-old AOLer.

Thanks Koji...firsthand knowledge will always beat m2's heresay....

I repeat again m2pt2...keep yr lame advice\sarcastic comments to yourself please...as i read thru yr  other posts on this site, i see the same old tone coming from you...perhaps something YOU could work on....
as for my grammar etc     i sense a scraping of the barrel in that
thankyou for showing me the way....now go and change yr avatar AGAIN, and then go and find a life...something i suspect you do not have  !!

m2pt5

My avatar is a random script, I don't actually change it as often as it changes.

And the reason I'm not exactly polite is because I don't take kindly to stupidity.

THE WORD IS YOUR NOT YR. YR IS NOT A WORD.

RARR INTERNET RAGE

Edit: Are you so dim that you can't even get my name right? Twice, even!

sadly, r2d2 politeness costs nothing!!

"the reason I'm not exactly polite "must be code for "downright rude" perhaps??
Get out of yr. little tree you intellect you, and , as i said previously, find a life....most "not exactly polite" people that i come into contact with generally have a chip of some sort on their shoulders...

so, to recap...
my grammar, capitalization and spelling needs work..
I'm stupid...
I'm dim...
I have the intelligence of a 6 YR.old AOLer(or perhaps that should read AOL-er  ??)
Gee, thanks for dropping in to give me a helping hand with my query r2d2...
This great site REALLY needs arseholes like you...

Now F#$K off and please go increase your post count on someone elses thread....silly little boy.

thaive

Would you two girls take this cat fight into the realm of PM thankyou.

You question has been answered, its over.
