all passme 2 devices work the exact same way, the only difference is how they are programmed, and for the most part that will be a non-issue since they'll come preinstalled for a certain game.

If you mean if you should get a passme 1 type device, or a passme 2 type device, go with one if your DS supports it (search for the method to tell your DS firmware by color). If you aren't sure your DS supports it, default to V2 as it will work on all models.

The passme2/superpass2 cover all bases as they can be used as a regular "passme", or they can be programmed to work with any newer version DS.
