is it possible to replace the ds firmware with the ds lite firmware?, the reason is I ask is because since the ds lite firmware has several backlight settings. So maybe it would be possible to use the ds lite firmware on the regular ds and adjust the backlight settings.

No the regular DS only has 1 backlight setting, theres no secret backlight setting to unlock.

Actually in the game  Viewtiful Joe: Double Trouble! you can ajust the brightness.  In the options menu: select brightness, and then you can choose from: bright, normal, or dim.  "dim is backlight off."  But that is just for in that game.  But the screen doesn't get any brighter then normal I think. It just has a normal setting which is a little bit dimmer.

Why do people keep saying that!! This game does NOT manipulate the LCD screen in any way other than on and off. It only controls the contrast of the graphics which makes the game itself brighter, Not the screen.

Just like Legend of Zelda- The Minish Cap. It's just in game option for brightness.
