I saw this posted on MaxConsole today:

FW Nitro v1.5 - DS firmware Replacement

zzo38computer has released a new version of his DS firmware replacement.

FW Nitro v1.5 Changelog

- Settings in options.h to ignore auto-start flag in NDS card (in case it causes problems or you don't like that function, and this is also what was causing the screen to go black)

- On-screen keyboard functions have been changed a bit: Cursor is displayed after text, color of input text is now highlighted, and Esc key works (same as B button to cancel)

- L and R buttons can be used on main menu to toggle back-light

You can now call ARM7 functions in PROGRAMMING MODE

Nowhere is it explained what benefits or features come with this.  The FlashMe firmware works great for me, so I'd certainly need a compelling reason to try this out.  Does anyone know anything about it?

I always keep in a folder in my SD Card, FlashMe V7 and this homebrew firmware (I have V 1.4)

I have FlashMe V7 installed at all times, but when I want to play the locked tracks on Mario kart DS I simply install the homebrew firmware.

This is its greatest function that flashme hasn't.

BTW I have inserted aluminium foil in the SL1 hole so there is no need to open my DS again ;)
e who laughs last, obviously didn't get the joke.

If at first you don't succeed, redefine success.

That's so dangerous that I have no words to describe it.

That is very risky. That will allow a “DS bricker trojan” to wipe out your firmware without the benefit of flashme recovery menu, because the recovery code is protected by SL1.

What are the benefits of this over flashme?

yes i would like to know what benifits this firmware has that flashme doesnt

:!: Red,

Please take the aluminum foil out of your unit unless you want it to eventuallly get bricked.  As long as you have SL1 shorted, even a COMMON homebrew app could rewite your unit by making the wrong call to the unit's bios!

Red XIII

Ugh.

Thanks for pointing that out,everybody.

Didn't really know the consenquences of having SL1 shorted at all times.

BTW the benefits of this over FlashMe are that you can play the locked tracks of MKDS online AS I SAID BEFORE! At least, that's a benefit for me.

Also, check out this comment from gbadev:

Very good idea to have the MKDS Offline Course Hack implemented right into the firmware. I just played the hidden courses moments ago for the first time thanks to it.

Yup, chishm's hack is now detected as a commercial game and bans your MK:DS Game Card from WFC if used. This way it doesn't run directly from the GBA Slot, so it can't get banned! :)

Wouldn't it be easier to use the prepatched MK rom for that???

As of current, you can't dump games using the Super Card SD, which I own.  Oh well... :(
