hey guys, i was just wondering what is exactly needed to load external roms (mostly commercial) onto the new DS Lite.

its so confusing on all of the ways that i could possible load roms onto the ds, it would really help me out if you guys could point me in the right direction.

thx in advance.

wow. that's a very very general question.

firstly, to run a DS rom from a flash cart, you need to send all requests for DS code to the GBA slot.  to do this, you need a passthrough device (passme, passme2, etc..) or flashme.

secondly, you need a gba flash cart.  a regular gba flash cart will do (as long as you can flash it in "single rom mode" with no built in menu) but it is not ideal, due to saving issues (for the most part, you would need an original DS cart with the correct save size in the DS slot).
It would be better to use a Supercard.  Supercard's patching software is designed to patch DS roms for easy use in the supercard. saving is done seamlessly.

NOw, because you asked about the lite, which is a "new firmware" DS, you will need a passme2, not a passme1.  there are many types:  passme2, superpass2, passkey2, passme 2-z, etc.  This is to get your DS Lite to look to the GBA slot for DS code, rather than the DS slot.  So far, there aren't any true DS-slot-only flash carts.

You can read more on the whole topic at this forum, or gbadev.org, or gbatemp.  check the stickies.  this topic is really huge, so I didn't really know where to start.  hope I kind of pointed you in the right direction at least.
